Quote of the day: There is no such thing as just a job. Anything that takes up your time takes up your life. What if you never do anything that you think is important? Sometimes I wonder if you're a musician who works in a cereal bar, or just a cereal guy who makes a little music. --Flakes

Politics, politics politics

Busy week. Michelle Bachmann dropped out of the race, sparking a temper tantrum when marcus learned he would not be First Lady. Rick Perry went home to Texas, rethought his life and came to the wrong conclusion. He shoulda bought the deathsticks. it'll be less painful in the long run.  Santorum said something anti-gay/anti-woman/anti-sex. Just google it. Newt and Romney said racist crap. These are not news.

As we know, Newt is an amatuer historian. However, he doesn't let the facts get in the way of doctrine when he says the founding fathers would have been anti-marijuana. “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government,” he responded.  Except for the part where BOTH OF THEM GREW IT!

Crime and Punishment:

The FBI redefined rape. This is good. The new definition, which includes men, is "“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”

Kitchen Witchery

Jedi and sith burgers now available. In Belgium.  Oh belgium!

Tonight's dinner:
Ham & Swiss casserole

  • 2 1/2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups chopped cooked ham
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup seasoned stuffing mix (coarse-crumb style)
Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  1. Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the egg noodles, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 5 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.
  2. Combine the cream of mushroom soup, white wine, and water in a large bowl. Stir in the cooked egg noodles, ham, and Swiss cheese. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the dry stuffing mix over the dish. Bake uncovered until the casserole is bubbling and browned, about 30 minutes.

The run went pretty well, but as I was leaving the last stop, I got a phone call from Bun.

"Jonner tripped Dollface! I can't get the bleeding stopped!"

It seems my baby was carrying a gallon pickle jar through the front hallway (stone paved, hardest floor in the house) when Jonner tripped her.

Bun did an excellent first aid job, but Dollface was still bleeding when I got home half an hour later.

I spent 3 hours in our local emergency room with a bleeding kid. I'd never actually SEEN subcutaneous fat before tonight. But Dr. O was a warm, careful lady from Nigeria who made my baby feel better.

Dollface has inherited Mudd's resistance to -caine drugs and the Lidocaine only kicked in at the last stitch. She has 3 stitches on the back of her arm, and two glued cuts.

She was very brave.

WARNING! VERY GORY PYTHON SKETCH!

Well, actually, they aren't.
I did, however get a FedEx package from the National Marrow Donor Program saying I'm a potential match and to call in.

I called, left a message and am waiting a call-back tomorrow.
I wonder if the squamous cervix will get me disqualified?

We are broke.
As in, so broke I'm riding Obi's bike 2 miles to work instead of driving.
We'll be okay in a couple of days.

I haven't been on a bike in years. There was less of me last time. When I regularly rode 3 miles
to school, I was half the woman I am.

The ride was gorgeous. Cool morning, misty and a sweet breeze. The bike path goes right along the bayou. I saw half a dozen other people out on bikes too.

But oh, my, I hurt. I have permanent bike-seat bruises on my butt. my arthritic knees are griping. And 18 speeds is about 15 more than I need or can use.

I have a hearing aid.
It's loud around here.

And I have a medical card so I go back to work Tuesday!
valarltd: (I seem to have died)
I went in today to see a neurologist, about my butt and about the fibromyalgia thing.

He ordered an MRI.
Ok, I'm just flat on my back in the nice big tube. I'm good.

Uh, yes, I'll take the blindfold please, I have a little claustrophobia *glance at Tube, it's big* I should be okay. Headphones, yes please. 80's rock if you have it (I shoulda asked for classic country) Squeezebulb if I need out? ok. I shouldn't need a safeword.

I'm on the bed and it raises to 3" from the top of the tube and then squashes me in like toothpaste! OK. I can do this. Lie quietly. Listen to Flock of Seagulls. peek out from under slipped blindfold and realize ceiling is NOT far from nose. Try not to think about how your wrists are absolutely confined against your hips.

Breathe breathe breathe. Twisted Sister? WTF? I need some Cyndi or some Eurythmics plzkthnx!
OKay one set done. You're okay. You're not breathing, Angel, breathe!

I made it through three images and safeworded.
My heart was racing, my hands were shaking, I was white as a sheet and I wanted to throw up.
They're arranging an open MRI to get the other three.

I feel like such a wimp.

My insurance covers hearing aids! OK, only 80% but that takes the crushing $4000 to a more manageable $800.

Am calling the audiologist.

Mudd is at a conference in Conway, so I'm single-momming for a couple days. No royalty checks yet. 8( No Schneider bonus either. 8(

Update

Went to ENT.
Got ears cleaned.

My hearing has not deteriorated from the first test. I am a good candidate for hearing aids. We just don't have $4000. We can't finance, because their finance company is still after me for some root canals.

Doom!

I failed my DOT health recertification.
I am disqualified from driving my truck.

Bad balance.
Blood and Protein in my urine.
failed the hearing section most egregiously.
High pain levels affecting normal movement--check for fibromyalgia.
Sleep apnea because of my size.

Fucking hell.

So, I've called my dr's office, and my ear dr (hearing aid forthcoming) and my dispatcher has arranged for me to ride along as navigator and aide on my own route so I'm not totally without income.

Am looking into that alternative certification thing for education again.

ETA: Dr the 31st of July. Ear dr yet to call back.

The best news yet: Jonner's ears look great. No tubes needed at this time.
We'll keep an eye on him. If he gets an infection, he may yet need them.

Bun's having no end of trouble at school. She has one friend. Who can't associate with her if any of her other friends are around. The only thing that gets her through the week is thinking of MAGY on Friday. I don't have answers or solutions for this.
valarltd: (Default)
The day started by taking Jonner to the ear doctor.

He was VERY good. Poor little guy had a terrible case of White-Coat Fear, but today he hopped into the chair, answered questions, said Ahhhh, and cooperated beautifully.

Looks like surgery again in the fall. He needs another set of tubes. Ordinarily, kids quit needing them at 5, but he gets ear infection in the summer as well as winter. So, another set, which should hold him until he's 9, and his eustachian tubes get wider and more vertical. At least intubation is a same-day procedure. They do it, watch him for a couple hours and then send him home.

I didn't feel well, so I went back to bed. I am a GROUCH when people try to wake me up.

We had turkey burritos for lunch. Chicken something tomorrow.

Work is boring tonight. But I won a free liter of coke.

We had a brown-out, which means the stairwell doors shut, the fire alarm (2 ft from my desk) goes off, and all chaos breaks loose. Power's back on and it's quiet.

I think i know where I've gone wrong with "Wolverton Mountain." if not, I have a Plan... Wolverton Mountain can be VividSected, and I'll premiere "Don't call my name in battle."

Mom came through surgery just fine. She was lucid, if in some pain, when I called. Well, of course she hurts! They sliced her leg open, sawed out her knee and replaced it with metal! But she's up and going, and the therapists are pretty amazed. She doesn't expect to need as much therapy this time.

Edited the extra frames from "The Gallows" and "Fundamentals." Working with Obi to figure out what he was thinking when he laid down some of the more esoteric clips.

Coded Simply Irresistible, from Con*stricted By Plot 3, and loaded it to my website. Luke/Han/Jacen, and dark as can be.

Had a nice breakfast this morning with Mudd. Grocery shopping tomorrow.

My teeth are quite literally rotting out of my head.

I have not one but 2 abcessed bicuspids.

So it's a month of anti-biotics plus some serious painkillers. Then a double root canal on May 19.

Well, at least I won't wake [livejournal.com profile] jkb by crying in my sleep before the pain wakes me up. Mudd's been enduring that.

Also, a regular check up on May 11, to get everything ELSE taken care of.
The dentist has a light touch. Maybe he won't leave me with bruised lips and broken blood vessels in my cheeks. The last one was heavy handed with the novocaine, as well as heavy handed in general.

Caloric intake: 1940 (give or take Ralley's does not publish nutrional info)
Calories expended: 2300

I got headphones and batteries to take to the gym, so I can have something interesting to do while I walk that half-mile.

But I splurged and had a Ralley's pepper-jack chicken, with a small fry and small strawberry. Still avoiding caffeine, which explains the constant heaadache.

Caloric intake: 1100
Water intake: 104 oz.
Calories burned by bed-time: 2025 if I walk 10 on the treadmill. 1950 if not.

Not bad. Of course, I've been miserable all day, being hungry, but that's my problem.

ETA: made .55 miles tonight. Think I'll hold it there until I don't sound like a steam engine and my legs don't turn to jelly. This should help on the con, too. No leg spasms.

Mom called tonight.

She just got out of the hospital. Do you know how sick you have to be to be hospitalized for 6 fraggin' days on an IV and a NG tube?
Pancreatitis. She's out now. And then there's the torn cartlidge in the right knee (not the one she had replaced last Christmas).

And my sister is going crazy between her schedule, Mom and a couple of double shifts.

Who am I to complain my youngest was running a 102 fever all week?

oh man...

I'm beginning to wonder how much longer Mom can last. (And getting a scary look at myself 20 years down the road)

I knew the day would suck when Obi said he felt barfy. He and Jonner went to school w/o lunches. I moved too slow to get breakfast for myself and ate peanut M&Ms.

Work was OK until someone wanted a refund for finding a lost book she'd paid for. No protocol in place, so we winged it.

Then the daycare called. Dollface stuck a rock in her ear. Way in her ear. They couldn't get it out.

I called the dr on my way out. I went by RGIS and got rehired. This is nice. This is extra income. This is paving the way for my move.

Picked up dollface, got home and was sick myself.

Started a post for the Oc_analysis list.

Phone rang, and the school said Obi, the live grenade I sent off in sentence one, had exploded. Picked him and Jonner up.

Computer ate my post.

Now we're eating lunch before Jonner's dr. appt. And Dollface's emergency trip to have a rock removed. Silly goose.

I know I'm sick because the cream of toad tastes good without pepper and is filling me up. (That's cream of mushroom soup to you non Chez Mudd residents)

I just want to watch old movies and drink ginger ale until I fall asleep.
