I failed my DOT health recertification.
I am disqualified from driving my truck.
Bad balance.
Blood and Protein in my urine.
failed the hearing section most egregiously.
High pain levels affecting normal movement--check for fibromyalgia.
Sleep apnea because of my size.
Fucking hell.
So, I've called my dr's office, and my ear dr (hearing aid forthcoming) and my dispatcher has arranged for me to ride along as navigator and aide on my own route so I'm not totally without income.
Am looking into that alternative certification thing for education again.
ETA: Dr the 31st of July. Ear dr yet to call back.

Oh, God, honey, I wish I had any kind of answers at all. I was thinking of you all last night (I even dreamed about you) (Not in a weird way: I had to find you and call you, even though I never call anyone, it was imperative I call you.) and was fearing you'd be in an accident, but instead this.
Oh no. Oh no, no, no.

Date: 2008-07-21 09:01 pm (UTC)What is alternative certification for education?
no subject
Date: 2008-07-21 09:24 pm (UTC)Basically, they give you all the pedagogue courses in intensive workshops. It's how Mudd got certified with his masters in Physics.
Oh dear...
Date: 2008-07-21 09:03 pm (UTC)I don't remember the alternative certification thing. What is it? I think you'd make a great teacher.

I bombed out back in 2001 in the wake of my strokes, yanking my limo certs and costing me the only real means of employment I had at the time. Shop boss was apologetic, but we both knew that was that.
FMS and '[my] headstrong refusal to slow down' were listed as the prime causes for the strokes I had, and I dearly hope you manage to dodge that bullet. If the FMS comes up positive (meaning they eliminate everything else), find a good rheumatologist that's willing to consider -all- types of treatment; some of the holistic methods can be useful. Meditation can sometimes help, and that's what gets me through the worst parts of it. Catch it early and adapt - you do NOT want to follow me into crippledom. Trust me, you'd get really bored. :p
*hugs* Sounds like you've got a line on something a bit less stressful, though, which is good. Is the pay comparable (or close enough to make no diff)? Certainly the hours would be better, and maybe a bit less taxing physically. And being partially deaf can be an advantage in a public school. ;)
*hugs* My thoughts go with you.

Date: 2008-07-22 12:37 am (UTC)The pay for a librarian is rather less (29 vs 35) and the health insurance is poor.
But we've managed to eliminate some debt, so that will help.

You're sig is fine...btw...I love that song. ;-)
Hee...just saw you joined and writing to you on list. ;-)
