I failed my DOT health recertification.
I am disqualified from driving my truck.

Bad balance.
Blood and Protein in my urine.
failed the hearing section most egregiously.
High pain levels affecting normal movement--check for fibromyalgia.
Sleep apnea because of my size.

Fucking hell.

So, I've called my dr's office, and my ear dr (hearing aid forthcoming) and my dispatcher has arranged for me to ride along as navigator and aide on my own route so I'm not totally without income.

Am looking into that alternative certification thing for education again.

ETA: Dr the 31st of July. Ear dr yet to call back.

Oh no. Oh no, oh no.

Shitfuckdamn.

Oh, God, honey, I wish I had any kind of answers at all. I was thinking of you all last night (I even dreamed about you) (Not in a weird way: I had to find you and call you, even though I never call anyone, it was imperative I call you.) and was fearing you'd be in an accident, but instead this.

Oh no. Oh no, no, no.

It's not looking good in many ways.

But I'll find work. I know I will.

I know you will, too. You're as tough as I am. But I know that awful stomach twitch feeling and I don't want it to happen to you.

Hugs from afar.

Yuck!

What is alternative certification for education?

Date: 2008-07-21 09:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] valarltd.livejournal.com
It's a program to get people with subject knowledge, but without an education degree certified to teach.

Basically, they give you all the pedagogue courses in intensive workshops. It's how Mudd got certified with his masters in Physics.

Oh dear...

Crap! I'm so sorry. I hope that some medical solutions can be found. I worry with you.

I don't remember the alternative certification thing. What is it? I think you'd make a great teacher.

Oh, honey. What shitty news. I hope you get somewhere with the alt. education stuff, because your health needs to come first. That job may be a decent one, but it seems so hard on you physically. Best of luck getting that lined up.

DOT health recert.
*shudder*
I bombed out back in 2001 in the wake of my strokes, yanking my limo certs and costing me the only real means of employment I had at the time. Shop boss was apologetic, but we both knew that was that.

FMS and '[my] headstrong refusal to slow down' were listed as the prime causes for the strokes I had, and I dearly hope you manage to dodge that bullet. If the FMS comes up positive (meaning they eliminate everything else), find a good rheumatologist that's willing to consider -all- types of treatment; some of the holistic methods can be useful. Meditation can sometimes help, and that's what gets me through the worst parts of it. Catch it early and adapt - you do NOT want to follow me into crippledom. Trust me, you'd get really bored. :p

*hugs* Sounds like you've got a line on something a bit less stressful, though, which is good. Is the pay comparable (or close enough to make no diff)? Certainly the hours would be better, and maybe a bit less taxing physically. And being partially deaf can be an advantage in a public school. ;)

*hugs* My thoughts go with you.

I need to find out how the rheumatology work-up went last time I had blood taken.

The pay for a librarian is rather less (29 vs 35) and the health insurance is poor.
But we've managed to eliminate some debt, so that will help.

And less is better than none. I'm sorry to hear about this, Angel. :-(

Less money sucks, hopefully the less stress and less physical demand and more family time will balance the scales some.

Its a tough choice.

Let's see what it turns out to be.
I do have arthritis in every major joint.
I'm interested.

Our group started out as mainly for Psoriatic Arthritis, but since then most of us have developed multiple problems. :-) So, very open to people with all kinds of problems and VERY helpful and VERY VERY supporting.

Our groups is: Psoriatic Arthritis: Mind, Body, Soul, because your health doesn't just affect your physical body.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pasupportmindbodysoul/

We've got people with everything from PA, RA, Fibro, MS, Reynalds and a dozen other things I'm not remembering.

(((huggles)))

Did I stress how SUPPORTIVE everyone is? ;-)

You're fine. You'll find the group is very understanding and some swing in diffrent directions. *blinks* I think that made sense.

I will warn you...this group has a wicked sense of humor. A lot of us live by the motto "There are two ways of dealing with things. You can laugh or you can cry. I'd much rather laugh."

You're sig is fine...btw...I love that song. ;-)

Hee...just saw you joined and writing to you on list. ;-)

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I may have a bit of an idea of what you're going through, since I've been disabled with arthritic knees for about five years now.

Just went over to Phaze and bought your "Collared Hearts" and "Frosted Hearts" novellas. Hope it helps, at least a little!

Thank you. Hope you enjoy them. We had fun writing them.
And every bit helps.

Knee arthritis got my mom. She has what she calls "Bionic Knees" now. The kids are all, "ooo, Grandma's a cyborg."
