Two MAJOR rulings this week

The ACA subsidies stand. Six million people get to keep their insurance. Can the GOP just STOP now? 59 attempts to destroy this thing. No proposal of their own, because this was THEIR proposal. It's starting to look as if all they want to do is hurt people. Not a good message.

The Court ruled 5-4 on Obergefell v. Hodges, that the 14th Amendment requires same-sex marriage to be legal in all 50 states. Kennedy wrote the decision, joined by Kagan, Ginsberg, Sotomayor and Breyer. Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas dissented, Thomas at the expense of invalidating his own marriage, which is only legal because the Court said so in Loving v. Virginia

It is Thursday! Welcome to it. If you can't get the hang of Thursdays that's all right too. We're just having some fun today.

Politics, politics, politics

Gay rights are anti-Christian bigotry. Who knew? I love--for the value of love that means hate with white hot hatred of a thousand burning suns--how they assume gays aren't Christians. I may think gay Christians are as delusional as gay Republicans, and for the same reason--trying to be a part of something that despises them--but I know a number.

Not sure if this is politics or misogyny. Wait, it's both! Primary source footage of Santorum wanting to ban ALL birth control.

Perry would put us back into Iraq, to keep Iran out of it.

The Wrong Ideas. Are the Republicans campaigning on the wrong talking points? Do they even realize how out of touch they are?

Apparently not. The GOP War on Sex. This is WHY I speak up for contraception, same-sex rights, polyamory/polygamy and other stuff. This is why i try busting the concept of morality at every turn, and suggest instead a sexual ethic of two parts: enthusiastic consent and honoring your commitments, to yourself and others.

Out of touch AND tone-deaf to their own racism. Food stamps vs. paychecks. The GOP loses the black vote right here. Again, i love--white hot hatred--how they think the concepts are at odds with each other. These are not people who have worked three jobs, gotten food stamps and STILL gone hungry. Remember, racism is a feature, not a bug, as are the misogyny and homophobia. And this is not new. It's why I was republican in my 20s and 30s.

Busy week. Michelle Bachmann dropped out of the race, sparking a temper tantrum when marcus learned he would not be First Lady. Rick Perry went home to Texas, rethought his life and came to the wrong conclusion. He shoulda bought the deathsticks. it'll be less painful in the long run.  Santorum said something anti-gay/anti-woman/anti-sex. Just google it. Newt and Romney said racist crap. These are not news.

As we know, Newt is an amatuer historian. However, he doesn't let the facts get in the way of doctrine when he says the founding fathers would have been anti-marijuana. “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government,” he responded.  Except for the part where BOTH OF THEM GREW IT!

Tonight's dinner:
Ham & Swiss casserole

  • 2 1/2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups chopped cooked ham
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup seasoned stuffing mix (coarse-crumb style)
Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  1. Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the egg noodles, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 5 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.
  2. Combine the cream of mushroom soup, white wine, and water in a large bowl. Stir in the cooked egg noodles, ham, and Swiss cheese. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the dry stuffing mix over the dish. Bake uncovered until the casserole is bubbling and browned, about 30 minutes.
