Politics, politics, politics

Gay rights are anti-Christian bigotry. Who knew? I love--for the value of love that means hate with white hot hatred of a thousand burning suns--how they assume gays aren't Christians. I may think gay Christians are as delusional as gay Republicans, and for the same reason--trying to be a part of something that despises them--but I know a number.

Not sure if this is politics or misogyny. Wait, it's both! Primary source footage of Santorum wanting to ban ALL birth control.

Perry would put us back into Iraq, to keep Iran out of it.

The Wrong Ideas. Are the Republicans campaigning on the wrong talking points? Do they even realize how out of touch they are?

Apparently not. The GOP War on Sex. This is WHY I speak up for contraception, same-sex rights, polyamory/polygamy and other stuff. This is why i try busting the concept of morality at every turn, and suggest instead a sexual ethic of two parts: enthusiastic consent and honoring your commitments, to yourself and others.

Out of touch AND tone-deaf to their own racism. Food stamps vs. paychecks. The GOP loses the black vote right here. Again, i love--white hot hatred--how they think the concepts are at odds with each other. These are not people who have worked three jobs, gotten food stamps and STILL gone hungry. Remember, racism is a feature, not a bug, as are the misogyny and homophobia. And this is not new. It's why I was republican in my 20s and 30s.

Sex Positive:

Female Sexual anatomy and response. There are diagrams. This is great for those who own female genitals, those who love people with female genitals and those who write about sex with people with female genitals.

The Clitoral Hug.  8000 nerve endings...and no purpose other than pleasure. Also, this should end clitoral vs. vaginal orgasm debates.

School daze

Finland has the best schools in the world. Why? No private schools. No standardized tests. And the goal is not excellence. It's equality of opportunity--each child should have exactly the same opportunity to learn, regardless of family background, income, or geographic location.
~~~
And if that sounds a bit absurd, consider 5 absurd solutions to huge problems...that aciually worked.
The best news I got all day:
My mother's blood work for December shows her white blood cells at near normal levels. She hasn't had that in YEARS. She said she though her normally staid dr was going to bounce up and down.
The Writer's Aid Department:
25 things Writers should stop doing. RIGHT NOW! We all do some of them. Some of us do all of them. I'm particularly guilty of 22: overpromising and overshooting. (I don't chase trends, I tend to run a year early)
From the Political Desk:
We all know that Romney beat Santorum by 8 votes in Iowa and Ron "The Demented Little Terry Brooks Character With a Gold Card" Paul made a strong third place. And I will maintain my dignity and not get myself into a froth of puns about Santorum surging from behind in Iowa to come out number two. I'm a better person than that. Apparently not.
Alabama considering personhood legislation. These forced birthers will not be happy until 70% of women are in jail for miscarriage, and 40% are on death row for abortions.
Obama appoints Richard Cordray to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Plutocrat Republicans howl. If we're protected from their predation, their profits will be lower!
Republican Pro-Life plank mates with States Rights and takes next logical step: Let states ban birth control!
Of course the Plaidder is always brilliant. But go read her fictional debate.
She sums it all up:
"I know how you govern: you're a delegator, a starter of projects you can't finish, you're an absentee. You surround yourself with your childhood friends because you know they're loyal and at least as dumb as you are; they don't know what they're doing either but you like it that way cause they'll never be a threat to you. You're obsessed with personal loyalty, you govern like it's recess and you're still in eighth grade, you savage anyone who criticizes you and you use an insane, warped, Apocalyptic form of Christianity as a replacement for the brain you've wasted."
This is great. My own Weasley Clock.
But "Home" "School" "Work" and "Mobile" are such dull categories.
Garden, Dentist, Prison, Lost, and Quidditch are much more fun.
Alas, it won't be marketed for some years yet.
"This Modern World" by Tom Tomorrow. It's at Salon, so you'll have to watch a short ad. But it totally sums up how I feel right now.
The Old Issue by Kipling. Scary how something over 100 years old can feel so very contemporary.
"He shall mark our goings, question whence we came,
Set his guards about us, as in Freedom’s name.
He shall take a tribute, toll of all our ware;
He shall change our gold for arms—arms we may not bear.
He shall break his judges if they cross his word;
He shall rule above the Law calling on the Lord."
Gay response to pheremones. I'd be interested in a 4 group study which includes lesbian women.
Preschool meanness Apparently popular bitchiness starts early, early, early. I always knew some of it had to be an instinctive thing.
A book I really want to read. Freakonomics
