I am about to plunge headfirst into the wilds of Anime

The kids are making me watch Full Metal Alchemist: The Conquest of Shamballa.

ETA: Now they want to see a Fritz Lang movie...

That one's not bad. It didn't keep me riveted, but it was pretty fun sometimes.

FMA is all right. Better than Naruto, certainly.

See if you can talk them into Slayers--it's old, so it's cheap. Slayers Next especially is great.

Oh, man. I was stuck watching Record of Lodoss War every day for 2 weeks by the time mine was four. You're lucky to have gotten this far! I hope you enjoy it; FMA is pretty good.

FMA: Conquest of Shamballa was the full title.

It was pretty good.

See, I believe everyone should start out by Netflixing Gatchaman, because after the bad 70s animation, bad 70s hair, and "said what now?" science, everything else is a step up. (I love it because of those things, not in spite of them.)

That aired in the US as "Battle of the Planets" I was SOOOO addicted. (so shoot me, I was 10)

Our next offering is either Harry Potter: OOP or Shreck 3
The kids want to see a Fritz Lang movie now that I told them he was real.

Oh, hell, I was also addicted to Battle of the Planets. (It's better without 7-Zark-7. It doesn't make more sense, but it's better.)

The D-Man checks in

Ah yesss... Battle of The Planets.
I was hopelessly addicted, but the DVD set was disappointing. Childhood memories do not always translate well into adult reality.

Full Metal Alchemist was a fair piece of work.
You just gotta like, Lust!

You want a good one for the kids, check out Obon Star Racers (not likely the right spelling, but close). Very good story. Very nice animation, albeit in that typical anime style where people don't have much for noses.

All we got in this one were Envy, Wrath and Gluttony.

Our next movie is Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix.
We're seeing movies that at least one person hasn't seen.

The kids want to see a Fritz Lang and I can't decide between Dr. Mabuse or Metropolis. (No way are we seeing M)

You should watch the FMA series. the movie wraps up everything after the series and you understand more after the series. It's 51 episodes on 13 discs though. Or one episode a week on adult swim because they saturate their lineup every night with Inuyasha. (No offense to those who like it, but I absolutely hate Inuyasha.)

And I still haven't been able to watch the entire FMA movie. It makes me sad after being so massively addicted to the series. And now I'm going through the manga and holy shit there's a lot more to it.

What I've seen of the movie was good though. You could have been forced into watching worse animes.
