I get a B&W copy of a picture, then turn it upside down and draw what I see that way. One of the techniques from Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
Your Han is definitely improving. He seems easier to draw for some reason - at least to capture the essence of his personality and character. Luke is much more difficult I think. I like to think it's the difference in the character complexity - Han is straightforward and Luke very diffuse and layered - and I think that shines through when the actors are in character.
Much more flattering than my idea that it's just Mark's funky eyes and eyebrows.
Actually, while Luke is the more complex character, I think it's Han that grows more over the arc. Luke is reactive. Events sweep him along, destiny, the Force, etc. Han makes the choice to get tangled up, every time. Luke learns not to be reactive, to take the initiative. But Han just keeps choosing to get himself snarled up: Yavin, Hoth, General, etc.
