"Although we are disappointed by today's outcome, we are not distressed or defeated," said Dr. James C. Dobson, chairman of Focus on the Family, one of many pro-family organizations which had sought passage of the amendment. "This is only the opening salvo in a long battle to preserve the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman — a battle we are determined to win.

"The Civil War, another great struggle in the history of the American people, was not won in a day — and like that great cultural clash, we are certain morality will prevail."

In their defense, the whole darn country thought the war would only last a season.

Besides, in an issue where half of America is one way and the other half the other, it makes sense that they'd elect representatives that mirror their own views. Change the popular perception, and you'll change the elected rep's. Or even just the rep's voting pattern. :) KC

That's an incredible analogy: The Civil War and the Banning Gay Marriage.

The only difference is that the Civil War was fought over states rights. The Gay Marriage Act would effectively take away states rights.

Actually, I partially agree. I feel fairly confident that morality will win out in the long run and gay rights will be accepted.
