valarltd: (bad day)

You know it's going to be a bad day when you have to throw your underwear away first thing in the morning. (No great loss, they were ratty nylon ones I'd bought in an emergency in Mishawaka a couple years ago)

We had ice storms here.
Hence I was in no big hurry today and took my time.

I made it as far as Jonesboro. As I was pulling into the lot, I went under a wire I've gone under more than 300 times before.

Today, I didn't clear it. The ice had it so weighed down I hooked it.

There are few things more embarassing than calling 911 and saying "I'm trapped in my truck by a downed electrical wire." One of them is calling your dispatcher and having him tell you that in 15 years of trucking he's never had THAT particular call. Another is being trapped and having to pee.

The cops came out. I refused to get out, because...well, electrical wire on metal truck frame.

The only thing more embarassing than telling your dispatcher you're trapped is telling him you're trapped by

wait for it...

A phone line.

It took two cops to get it over my cab (I didn't break the wire).

By this time I'm stressed, scared (I've been very cool through it all) and really have to pee.

So I delivered the two stops and went home.

One of THOSE days.

FWIW I would have made the same decision. And having had 7 accidents in two years way back when I was delivering auto parts means that you learn not to take chances.

At least you're not like another friend of mine who does OTR and has a tendency to constantly smash the back of his trailers every time he back in. (I have no idea why he hasn't lost his job over it.)

Rest and enjoy a beverage of your choice and some food. ;-)
