My first Steampunk piece

These garters are from 1895.

I'm doing them in black thread and on a slightly larger hook (5 rather than 7) so it doesn't take a million rows to get around my thigh (22 1/2 inches). It's 2 iterations per inch.

After I master the pattern (and get some callouses, thread crochet EATS my fingers) I may try them with beads at the center of each x.

too cool! I am knitting socks & just now learning how to work toe-up instead of top-down. My fingers are tired, in fact my arms are too! Whoever thought needlework was so difficult?? Are you gonna post a photo of the garters in situ when they are completed?

Needlework is tough.
Knitting tires me right out.

And I had planned to post pictures of the garters and the whole outfit. (I can have these done by Ostara, I CAN)
