It's kinda ironic. I got into paganism because I needed a more feminine aspect of the Deity, yet of late it's been the God that calls me.

We have a Green Man on the wall of the study now. Dollface was curious, so we reviewed the aspects of the God: Green Man, Horned God, Oak King, Holly King. She loved the song "Hymn to Herne:"

So we went looking for pictures of Herne.
And we found This Picture. (link NWS) Oh My GOD...which is rather the idea.
It gives a whole new meaning to "Blessed are the Children of the Horned One!"

And so we looked for pictures of the Green Man. Dollface found some of the foliate heads a little scary. Ours isn't because he's merry.
But then we found this: http://www.iupui.edu/graphics/greenman.jpg
He's Dollface's Green Man, the handsome boy that the Maiden Goddess loves.
Just as the Horned One is the beautiful bridegroom of Beltane and the handsome husband of Summer.

We've been working through A Witch's Primer: Grade One together and we're both learning a lot.

I've found the same need to know the God... the Goddess is what brings us, but in the end it's about balance. A Goddess-centric spirituality, in my opinion, is no better than a God-centric one.

For Pagans who come from monotheistic religions, I think it's especially important to learn about the God as he should be, which means as a loving father-figure as well as disciplinarian, a brother and lover, a partner in all things. He is as multi-faceted as the Goddess, but poorly neglected.

Also, I love the song, is there a CD somewhere that can be purchased?

That's the S00j we've all been working to save. [livejournal.com profile] saveours00j

Her Cds are here:

"Hymn to Herne" is on BLESSINGS
Sirens, Tangles and Haphazard are well worth the purchase as well.

Samples of her other stuff is here:

I can't reccommend Labyrinth or the Wendy Trilogy highly enough.

A lot of her stuff is on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sj+tucker&search_type=&aq=f)
You can sample the songs before buying a CD.

She gets her income strictly from her music. And right now, she's recovering from surgery.

It is so cool that you're able to do this with your kids. :)

Dollface is much of the reason I'm actively pagan.
She intuited the existence of the Goddess--after all, she has a Mommy and Daddy, so Deity must come in Mother and Father too--and asked about her sister being a witch.

One thing we've talked about is a batch of children's books for kids being raised in the craft.
