  • I have a release date for Glad Hands. Chuck Hummingbird's run starts Feb 25.
  • Bun and I start First Realm classes at church nect Thursday. Basically, Paganism 101. It looks like a lot of work, but I think it will an important step spiritually.
  • Mudd commented, "News of the Futue, 2011. Every time I go visit Bun at college, her terrarium has a new frog in it. Worse, theyre all named."
  • I talked to Bun about considering an IUD. She didn't know what it was. I explained that near-eastern camel-drovers kept their camels from becoming pregnant by placing pebbles in the camels uteri. She looked and said, "After that, you think I'm going to go for the idea?" I shrugged and said, "We don't use pebbles anymore."
  • Dollface has a cold sore and it's making her crazy that she can't kiss anyone.
  • My paper copy of Flipped Fables arrived. Mudd looked at the cover and said, "Taken outside of Orlando after they fucked Disney?"
  • Obi is still too thin. 88 lbs at 5'3". He wears 2-3 shirts every day to stay warm.
That's the News from Lake Woebegone Chez Mudd. I'm off for a long day at work.

I thought you had to have had at least one child before you get an IUD. So Bun may not be a candidate. Also, looking at my wee Nadia, they're not nearly as infalliable as the drs. tell you: Na is one of 6 IUD babies from our gyno's office.

It makes insertion easier, but some Drs and clinics will do it for you anyway, you just need a shot of anesthetic. The new IUDs are pretty small and I know women who haven't had kids who have them. The new hormone-release ones are very much more reliable than the older ones. (I did a ton of research before finding out that my allergies made it unlikely I could use one.)

Ah. Mind you, it has been *a number* of years since I got mine. Like *yipes* 10 -- and that's when they were telling people they were good for ten years. Now, they're saying five.

God, I'm old.

Me, too. *g* I remember the OLD IUDs, like the D-ring (which is still in use in some places).

IUD is about the only form of birth control I haven't used.

I'll do some more reaseach, and we have a couple years yet.

Last I heard, Mirena IUD was the #1 choice of birth/menstruation control by women in the armed forces. :) Not only is it great BC for 5 years at a time, it will likely stop her from having her period, eliminating all the fuss with pads and tampons and cups. I hope she considers it. The IUD is considered almost a "Standard Add-On" for women in many other countries. :)

And you really thought the pebbles history was the best way to introduce her to the concept? Snerk. You are a nerd, my dear. :) Though I think the above poster is right - most doctors are going to decline because she's never had a baby, and there are good reasons for it beyond ease of insertion. Is she not able to take the pill? I would think that would be the easiest way.

For hormonal, my friends swear by Nuvaring, because you only have to remember to do it once a month. Messing up your pill schedule can have bad consequences, and lord knows I had enough trouble remembering to take the pill at the same time every day as a theoretically responsible adult, never mind asking a teenager to do it.

She's on the Pill (and 3 other prescriptions). We're just looking ahead a couple years, when she's been weaned off the psychotropics. The Pill is a hassle, not just remembering to take it, but also filling it.

Technically, nulliparous women can have the IUD.
