Blurb:

Chuck Hummingbird rolls his rig across the no-longer-united States, from Montana to Arkansas. He'd expected a fast run with no complications. What he didn't expect was Seven, a pretty blue-eyed drifter. His gayness tattooed into his very skin, Seven needs Chuck's help to escape the repressive life Heartland forces upon him. And when the even more repressive Confederated States take an interest, Chuck and Seven are in for the ride of their lives.

Suggestions? Comments?

Yup. Seven. Poor boy was a victim of a typo on his birth certificate. He was supposed to be "Steven".

But where he comes from, you don't rock the boat on anything. Even correcting a clerical error is making too many waves. His parents figured at least he has a typo for a name that's pronounceable.

It's not exactly a sequel, but it is set in the same world.
(Nick even makes a very quick, unidentified cameo) Niko-Chan is the sequel to Nikolai, and I'm editing on it.

We see Pacifica, The Tribal Lands, Heartland and some of the U.S. in this one, Glad Hands.

And Be Debauched is indeed how you leave a comment in the Den of Debauchery.

Hummingbird? Seriously?

And this book sounds like it's post-apocalyptic dystopia--so I don't know if "his gayness tattooed into his very skin" is a metaphor or if it's literally true. I think that this phrase needs to be clarified.

Also, why would it be such a big deal for one gay guy to want to leave Heartland? If Heartland doesn't like gays, I'd think it'd be glad to get rid of him. I don't understand why two governments are sending their forces after a single gay guy.

I'm sorry. I suspect that the blurb makes a lot more sense if you've read the first book in the series. I haven't.

Hummingbird is a fine old Cherokee name. Honestly, how much weirder is it than Sparrow? (and the oddness IS a running gag)

This IS the first book in the series. It may share a world, but it doesn't share characters with Nikolai. Finding out what's going on is the point of reading it.

It's not really post-apoc, but it is dark future (not all the countries are dystopic).

And Seven's tattoo is very real.
