Been thinking a lot lately about home-made gifts.

As a kid, I was a screw-up. Nothing ever turned out right, it was always messy or torn or ugly.

So...

Even though I've outgrown the awkward stage, why does it feel like I'm still giving messy pictures in badly-glued popsicle stick frames when I'm giving hand-made Barbie clothes and gorgeous woolen scarves?

Why do I keep thinking "hand-made" means "cheap" and "tacky" and "70's"?

How do I get rid of the old scripts that say "cost is everything" and "your time has no dollar value?"

Or is it just my familial dysfunctions turning up?
The knowing that no matter what I make, my mother could make it better, prettier and faster?

I now remember why I hate the holidays.

Oh, opening matinees went well.
Tonight is the Christmas Parade. The high is supposed to be 31 degrees. Daughter is on the Nutcracker float and Son and I are marching with the Cub Scouts.

Brrrrr!

Now why am I seeing your sheep wearing the cornucopia like a wizard's hat and one saying "Let's play at Harry Potter. I'll be Dumbledore and you can be Nicholas Flamiel and we'll play 'where's the wand' over my desk..."
