So, looks like we're having a room party at MidSouth
Or two.

I am all at sea over what to make, or even offer.

The brain dip is shrimp and crab in cream cheese. Very yummy.

For drinks I'd say it depends on the time of day. Brunch/afternoon: Bloody Mary. Evening: Martinis.

(But I might be the wrong person to ask because I don't like sweet cocktails at all.)

I rather think con parties lack in Real Food, like deli trays and anything with protein. There's a carb overload at most cons.

I'd avoid nuts. You never know who might be allergic to nuts.

Okay, this is probably the stupidest food suggestion but it's bc I didn't rightly read the question b4 I hit "other in comments", so I apologize. I thought it meant general things and I was going to suggest "plenty of places to sit." Not that I've ever thrown a real room party, but as a guest, that's what I need when I go to them. And big plates and not lots of silverware or shallow punch glasses to try to juggle when you're squashing for a seat on the floor. See, lame. Sorry about that.

I would avoid anything that gets fumbledby multiple hands. Like nuts and M&Ms.

Rotel is the BOMB!

and yeah, finger snadwiches, more protein is good.

Food that gets regularly fondled squicks me: especially at some cons, where the whole hygiene continuum is on display. Cookies are good, because they're self contained and less prone to fondling.

I always like a roll for a snack. It's filling and can be interesting in different ways. It can be danish or butter bits, donuts or dinner rolls. And it's usually cheap enough to supply plenty.

Probably my favorite is a tender dinner roll that can be eaten with or without garnish, and garnishes can include butter, jams, bread dips, liver sausage, sliced tomatoes, etc.

For party food... Hard to beat a veggi tray and dip, so long a people keep their fingers out of the dip.

For non-alcoholic beverages... Soda in cans works best for me, as there's no chance of what I choose (if I ain't in the mood for alcohol) being spiked or otherwise tampered with.

Favorite alcohol... I prefer my booze straight and sweet (although I can handle bi' and spicy), just like my women: Malibu Rum or schnapps.

In the Mixed Drinks category, I favor 4:

B-52: 1 oz. Kahlua + 1 oz. Bailey's Irish Cream + 1 oz. Grand Mariner.

Brave Bull: 4 oz. white tequila + 2 oz. Kahlua (which is odd, since I detest coffee) + twist of lemon.

Kamikaze: 1 oz. triple sec + 1 oz. vodka + 1 oz lime juice.
(Careful, as this one will sneak up on you, especially if you drink a dozen shots while never leaving your seat--just talking with your buddies. Standing up and walking some 30 minutes later doesn't seem like it would be a problem--or a bad idea--until you try!)

Angel's Tit: (Bet you didn't know you had a drink named after you, my dear! Research it if you think I'm making this up! 1st ran into it in Florida back in 1994...) 1.33 oz. maraschino liqueur + 0.66 oz. heavy (double) cream... Pour the maraschino into a liqueur/pony glass and float the cream on top. Chill for 30 minutes before serving and garnish with a maraschino cherry in the middle of the creamy top. Leaves you with a memorable sweet and smooth aftertaste (much like somebody I know).
