Wish list time
Nov. 19th, 2007 09:57 pmFor those of you how don't know about
wishlist_2007, you post your Xmas/end of year wishes and where people are able they will fulfill them.
STEP ONE
Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ (and link it here, OR post it direct to this community). The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.
STEP TWO
Surf around this community, or your friendslist (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
The Charity Things:
1) http://www.freerice.com/ Go play for 10 or 20 minutes. Leave your count and your word level as a comment.
2) Buys someone in your family a gift from http://www.hungersite.org
3) Donate confort and hope to a child through Project Linus
4) Donate to The Heifer Project and help families become self-sufficient. If you're against eating animals, there is a Knitting Basket with sheep and llamas and tree seedlings available.
The Literary Things:
1)
2) A Torquere Press gift certificate, or TQ books.
3) Buy one of my books. The better my sales, the more likely the publisher will take another chance on me. http://www.angelsparrow.com
The Tangible Things:
1) A miniature ice-chest, lunchbox sized.
2) An ice pack to go in it.
3) Magnets of any kind. I love them and the kids lose them like they're mittens. I find them every time I sweep the kitchen.
4) Cookie cutters. The more unusual, the better.
5) Skinny White Chick's Sirens and Blessings CDs (support independent music!)
6) Good smelling stuff. Again, no need to be new. The BPAL imp you don't like and can't sell. The Bath & Bodyworks lotion that makes you break out. The Avon your grandma gets you and you hate. Or a Bath & Bodyworks gift card. I lost my lotion in the Great Cab Debacle in April.
7) Knitting supplies, also lost in the Great Cab Debacle: bag, needles (esp sets of four double-ended ones, sizes 1 and 9.5), pumking orange, lemon yellow and brick-red yarn, pompom maker.
8) MP3s. I lost 2/3rds of mine in the Vista changeover. My tastes are eclectic.
9) Upper arm bracelts. I wear sleeveless for cons and need something yo disguise my tan-line. Memory wire, gold with turquoise-and-brown OR black beads would be terrific (2 different outfits). My biceps are about 17".
The "I Know I'm Dreaming" Things:
1) A pair of over-the-knee boots. Pirate or cavalier style, not dominatrix. Brown preferred, black OK. Women's 12, Men's 10 1/2
2) An e-book reader or PDA that handles PDFs. Doesn't need to be new, just useable.
