It's not just fringe guys like Steve Earle and James McMurtrie speaking out anymore. It's not the easily-ignored, heavily vilified Dixie Chicks.
It's Merle Haggard, Mr. Jingoist Okie from Muskogee himself singing about Rebuild America First

And it's not Merle singing it, but he wrote it, and you can find him doing it at launch.com
"That's the News." The video is hooped, though.

Darryl Worely has apparently recanted his previous position of Iraq=9/11 from "Have you forgotten?" and moved to "I just came back from a war."

And of course, Kris Kristofferson's "In the News"

"Burning up the atmosphere and cutting down the trees
The billion dollar bombing of a nation on it's knees
Anyone not marching to their tune they call it treason
Everyone says God is on his side."

Date: 2007-09-25 01:49 pm (UTC)Yes, I'm an evil person. I'm pro-War, pro-Troops, pro-Bush, and pro-American. Bad me.

Date: 2007-09-25 01:57 pm (UTC)I just resent the implication that being anti-war and anti-Bush makes one anti-American. Just because I don't think we should be in Iraq and because I didn't vote for Bush either time and don't like what he's doing, that doesn't make me anti-American, pro-Nazi, pro-terrorist are anything like that. It just means I have a different opinion than you do.
I AM anti-sheep, though.

Date: 2007-09-25 02:54 pm (UTC)Heck, my boyfriend, whom I love dearly and is a wonderful person, yeah, I'm bias. ;-) He's Anti-War, Anti-Bush, but Pro-American. We get heated with each other because we are the people who's opinions matter the most to each other and don't discuss it often, because...mostly he gets upset and I love him and don't want to hurt him. We're both very opinionated.
I didn't mean to make my entry so knee jerk. I'm just a bit prickly at the moment. I've been going through a lot of crap with people from the RP group I had been a member of for about 9 years. I ended up resigning with about 5 other people because they can't deal with a person having a brain and/or using it. Just found it interesting they found someone who only RPs once or twice a month when they RP twice a week such a danger to break the club bylaws to suspend them. *sigh*
Didn't intend to imply anything.

Date: 2007-09-25 02:59 pm (UTC)It's all right, my response was a bit knee-jerk itself. I've just gotten so much flack from and seen so many people who DO think I'm a Nazi or something because of my anti-war stance. So my apologies as well.

Date: 2007-09-25 10:01 pm (UTC)and 2 out of 4 isn't bad.
I was for the war in Afghanistan.
But attacking Iraq was the equivalent of FDR declaring war on India after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
And I only voted for Bush once. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Date: 2007-09-25 01:53 pm (UTC)Darryl Worely and Toby Keith are the two country music artists that have "suffered" from my personal boycott of them. Because I'm not like the throngs of morons who got the Dixie Chicks taken off the radio. When a song by Worley or Keith came on, I just turned the station. But I can't listen to the Dixie Chicks on the radio because the vast majority of country music listeners weren't thinking for themselves and went batshit.
I bought the newest Dixie Chicks CD. Take THAT, American sheep.

Date: 2007-09-25 02:43 pm (UTC)But then, I never liked the Dixie Chick from the get go. ;-) And...umm...though I do like Toby Keith (sort of) and Darryl Worely, the only Country CDs I've gotten are Rascal Flatts and Lonestar. ;-) Along with a couple singles I bought to make music vids to.

Date: 2007-09-25 02:51 pm (UTC)Rascal Flatts, yay! Lonestar, I love. They have some incredible harmonies.

Date: 2007-09-25 04:22 pm (UTC)I want the new Rascal Flatts CD, but what few CDs I've gotten lately have been David Arkenstone and Gary Stadler because I can use them at work. I work in the Activities Dept of a nursing home and use those CDs for my Sensory Group with the lower functioning residents. :-)

yep, been there.

Date: 2007-09-25 10:03 pm (UTC)I dunno about Worely. I like his voice and some of his work. (I did a Han/Luke vid to "I miss my friend")
Keith is exactly what he calls himself: white trash with money. And that's not a compliment.

Date: 2007-09-25 04:27 pm (UTC)Item 2. Pro-troops and Pro-American go together.
However it just boggles my mind now item 1 and 2 can even be *remotely* considered on the same side of spectrum.
If one is pro-troops, one does not support sending them into illegal wars of greed to be killed or maimed. One does not also support the Bush-administration policy of denying them benefits and proper care once they get home. This describes what I heard in the Worely song.
If one is pro-American, one does not support the squandering of the national treasury and "redistrubution" of public funds (America's money to spend on improving America!) into the pockets of overcharging war profiteers (A second vacation home and private jet for a CEO!). This describes what I heard in the Haggard song.
However, I still despise country music. Blech.

I know the bigger issue is that this war is my generations Vietnam and horribly so.
But I'm still going 'a female soldier, being active, who is also a woman of color?! And a country song remembering First Nations Peoples? OMG'
