The Hills Have Eyes (contains spoilers)

valarltdThe Hills Have Eyes is quite possibly the GORIEST movie I've ever seen. Blood, blood and more buckets of blood. This is Wes Craven Goes Grand Guignol.
So what does it take to get a nice Jewish liberal mad enough to axe murder a whole town of mutants?
Gutting his dog? not quite.
Killing his inlaws? not quite. this just leaves him in the leadership position
Raping his sister-in-law? not quite
Abusing and killing his wife? not quite, that just reduces him to tears.
Kidnapping his baby? not quite. This just gives him motivation to go get her.
Chopping off half the fingers of his left hand? YES! Now we're swinging an axe!
This is a great movie about consequences.
Be stupid enough to STAY in a fall out area, and you have mutant babies.
Be dumb enough to take the desert shortcut given you by the crazy old man at the Last Chance Gas Station? Get eaten by cannibal mutants.
And when all else fails, the mellow golden gleam ofThe One Ring the ring your dead wife put on your hand will give you enough of a second wind to kill the last mutant that stands between you and freedom.
Everyone in this movie was too dumb to live, really, humans and mutants alike. I can't sympathize with BigBrain's speech about humans made them this way. No, dimwit, ignoring the nuke testing was a choice. Being inbred cannibals is a CHOICE.
But Doug is not the sharpest axe in the shed and the rest of the family are a complete pack of morons. They have never seen a horror movie. they've never driven the desert and they don't know the first thing about survival.
Still, entertaining in that car-wreck sort of way.
