Yes, I'm under stress.
Yes I'm under pain.

But there are good things happening around here too.
ShowMeCon is this weekend.
I just signed a contract for Nikolai
I got my first royalty check.
I'm waiting on a contract from EC. Should be out next week.

And my Arcana story comes out Wednesday.

Dollface is reading, and writing.
Jonner is doing amazingly well on the benchmark exams, and learning to cook.

And I beat Obi at Civilization, but not by much.

Yep, but that's part of the problem, according to my mother-in-law, my shrink and half of the people I know.

Because of what I write, it's bad for the kids
And $47.31 isn't worth it.

(except that's a single month, and a half-share. The July check will be a 3 month half-share)

Not everything has to be good or even neutral for the children. Children are a major factor in life, true, but it is not appropriate to make all decisions about everything based on whether it is good or not for some undefined child somewhere. I doubt that what you write is bad for your own children; if you thought that it was, you wouldn't let them read it (if you do).

And no matter how small the royalty check, it still puts you in that elite group of writers (especially for fic!): the paid ones. That makes you a professional writer now. Savor it.

Technically, I've been a professional writer for almost 2 years. Of course, making $35 in a year isn't enough to live on, so I tend to use the term "Semi-professional: I make money but not enough to live on."

And yeah. Royalty check! First Novel! If I didn't need the money for ShowMeCon, I think I'd frame it.
