Whee! back to 28 day cycles finally! I cycled the 13th last month. Except this weekend is Mudd's birthday (he's 40) and then Valentines. Naturally.

Had a lovely lunch at Wendy's with [livejournal.com profile] dragonpurr and our friend Paul. We were greatly silly.

Then I swung by USA truck. All they're hiring is mechanics. Hell, they'll train me, so why not?
$9.50 an hour with no experience. Also picked up a sub teaching app. I have to get a TB test.

I left Wendy's at noon. It was raining. By 12:30 when I picked up the second app, it was not only snowing but starting to stick. And I mean big clumps of wet heavy flakes, like you've been hit by a quarter-sized snowball. Mudd is on his way home now, and I'm just going to sign my kids out early.

Going to stay in, drink cocoa, take advil and eat Irish Whiskey Fudge (from Ireland).

Dad's going to pay for Dollface to go to Sylvan for tutoring, for which we are very grateful. Obi finished his first short story for a writing contest at MidSouth Con. How many 10 year olds use "Krakatoa" in a story? And spell it right?

And Dollface has been playing with her big sister's digital camera. We sent this one to the grandparents.

How does sub teaching work? I'm thinking about it.

My best advice is call your school district.

I have to fill out an application, take a TB test an attend a workshop on March 2nd. After that, I may get a 6 AM phone call to report for duty to such and such school.

I sign in, read the substitute plan, and teach the classes.

When there's a state-mandated pay rate, is that what you get paid, or is that a theoretical floor and you actually get more? Assume I'd subbing HS science.

I'm not sure. Arkansas (the only place I've ever subbed) lets the districts set a per diem rate. Most set it between $45-60. And I said I would sub for anyone from Kindergarten on up because that's more likely to get work.

Wo. I think the NJ teachers' union must be pretty tough, because the state minimum rate seems to be $75 if you have a sub certificate, $80 if you have a full certificate.

Of course, housing prices here are *INSANE*.

Arkansas is a right to work state. The unions have some power in Little Rock, but there are whole districts without one NEA or AEA member.

NJ has high cost of living. AR does not.

Bunny's gorgeous. I wish I looked that good ever when I was almost 14. I don't think I'd hit five feet tall yet by then...

She's about 5'10". And you must understand, her photographer is less than 4' tall.

...And to think I used to carry her around on my shoulders up & down the streets of Rolla, MO. (*sigh*) She is quite lovely.
