Nothing much
Oct. 12th, 2004 05:14 pmMade an order from Oriental Trading Company. Much as I hate to order from them, they are the only ones who stock rubber snakes at a reasonable price, and the only place I know to get a brain shaped jello mold. (i'm putting shrimp dip in it)
Sock-dreams (rightly) refused my creditcard. I'll order from them on Friday.
My shopping list is a mile long. 3-4 loaves of bread, tuna, 80 eggs, peanut butter, about a million apples.
I may substitute deviled eggs for the taco meatballs, esp. if I make the batwings. Devilled eggs with an olive on top look like eyes, right?
Having a clean kitchen inspires me to do the culinary wacky. Eggs poached in maple syrup is fabulous. I blame Julian May and Mrs. Moul (my home ec teacher who showed us how to make poached eggs without an egg poacher.)
There's so much seriousness going around LJ, that I feel frivolous for being wrapped up in my activities and my family. Actually, nesting is my way of coping with the overwhelmingness of the politics, the deaths, and the other politics. I feel like shaking people and saying "wake up! Gay rights will never be more than a political football, because 90%+ of the population just wants us to go to Hell and the sooner the better. Women's bodies will always be a point of contention because men still think those are their property. It doesn't matter how we vote, because NOTHING is going to change, nothing is going to get better, and the nest-featherers are going to come back around in 4 years and promise us the moon for our votes, only to forget the minute they're in."
OK, I'm stressed, cranky and cynical.
The biggest stand I feel capable of taking at the moment is insisting that we have a Halloween party, not a Fall party or a Harvest Party. It's not bleeding Lugh or Mabon, people!
So I hauled out the cranky pants.
I have 3 costumes to make, 2 to buy (one is a premade vinyl, the other is a black sweatsuit). I have lots and lots of cooking to do. I have a whole graveyard to set up. "In memory of Bubba 1965-2004 'Hey y'all! Watch this!" A house to finish cleaning and decorate. Games and crafts to arrange.
A vid to finish and 4 Christmas crochet squares to do, which means I have 4 things to mail on Friday as well.
But Mudd has promised me a trip to Tunica as I am off on Sunday, and we have 2-for-1 coupons for Fitzgeralds. I plan to make a pig of myself. A McDonald's Big & Tasty is nice, but I think peel & eat shrimp will be nicer.
