Cranky pants today
Jul. 7th, 2004 10:15 amI called my Senator's office today about the vote on the FMA. She's against it.
I read Focus on the Family reasons for passing the FMA and was steaming very hard by the end. Ever want to hit someone with a clue-by-four?
Kids aren't shacking up because they are confused about sexuality. They, and the middle-aged like me, are shacking up because we saw our Baby Boomer parents divorce and divorce and divorce. Most of my friends don't see any reason to marry unless they are going to have kids. Most of them already have a failed marriage under their belts.
And "Won't someone please think of the children!" is getting old. I am thinking of the children. I'm thinking of the thousands of kids in same sex households whose parents are having all the next-of-kin issues. I'm thinking of my kids and all the other kids who are coming after me who may want spouses of the same sex.
As for polygamy? I have several words for the Christian Right: Abraham. Jacob. David. Solomon. It was the norm until Greco-Roman times when one married for kids and took a same-sex lover for pleasure. After the fall of Rome, there was no money for the support of extra wives. But the royalty always had their mistresses. We're still polyamists. We just do it serially instead of simultaneously.
But what can I expect from a group that believes since only 28% of American households are parents and children, the country is doomed. (The words Vietnam Baby Bust apparently mean nothing)
Appropos of nothing: Is anyone else annoyed by QAF? The whole concept of "bisexual" seems to elude both Emmett and Melanie. Emmett insists his football player is queer, when he's obviously bi, enjoying a relationship with a woman and planning to marry. And Mel seems betrayed and offended by Lindsey, as well as revolted by the very concept. I get the betrayal, but the visceral reaction is much stronger than it would have been had Linz cheated with a woman.
Grrrr!
