My day, and you can have it cheap
May. 25th, 2004 05:46 pmOh man.
The day started all right. So I burned the bacon. That happens.
I got the EvilGeniusMobile cleaned out and took it in for a check-up.
Yeah.
They forget to call me when it's done. So I have to call, about the time I need to leave for work, and find out. Turns out 3 of my tires are below the legal minimum for tread. I can't afford to fix it now, so we'll worry when I get home.
I'm off to work. No, the credit union. The loan I applied for was turned down because our mortgage isn't current. So I get $75 (and not an extra $500) and go to the bank. Thank goodness for Dad. He sent me some money. So, I'm going to try to drive 1500 miles on $100. (We get paid Thursday)
Got to work late. And nothing else has worked right either.
On the plus side, watched the Stewart/Close version of The Lion in Winter. Wow. I am impressed, and not just by Stewart's wig. They aren't O'Toole and Hepburn, but I think I like them better. However, they've been mangling lines! It's "Alais, in my time I've known contessas, milkmaids, courtesans, novices, whores, gypsies, jades and little boys." Stewart left off the last 2, which kills the line.
But their Geoffrey is perfect. He embodies "one may smile and smile and still be a villain."
It occurs to me, I haven't eaten since breakfast. Bummer.
There's shrimp alfredo in the freezer. I'll burn out on fast food in the next few days.
But, on the huge plus side, We got a room! !!!!
If you're there, look for the Wretched Hive, with the drunken bees.

Date: 2004-05-25 04:11 pm (UTC)Thanks for posting about LiW. This is the first time I heard anyone who's seen it comment. I hate that I don't get Showtime sometimes.

My guess is that 1) they didn't want a "modern audience" to think he was a pedophile and 2) they didn't think a "modern audience" would know what a "jade" was. *g* Irritating, but those are my guesses.
I didn't expect them to keep all the dialog intact; it's actually changed a bit from the play to the movie (though not a huge amount, mostly shifting of one or two sections to different scenes and just a couple actual line changes), too. But I know that movie backwards and forwards and could probably recite the whole thing, so... Hm.
