I agree with a lot except for the point about needing to study men and the gay community, or whatever, before writing slash fic. My position is, I'm not writing about "gay men," I'm writing about Luke and Han. I won't tell gay men how to live their lives; they won't tell me how to think about Jedi and smugglers.

I think it's more "Observe Gay Men so you see they aren't women with deeper voices." Gay men come in all stripes, from lispy nelly queens to butch bikers. And if someone was writing Luke as a lispy, bitchy, nelly glitter queen, we'd be all over them.
