valarltdSo I saw RotK with Bunny and Obi.
Before we got there, I gave Obi fair warning: no cheering, no dancing in the aisles, etc during battle scenes. And to be honest, my tiny Uruk-Hai was very good.
We caught the end of the trailer for The Punisher. And one for Butterfly Effect (which is a definite "Must catch on HBO")
My thoughts on RotK:
Aren't any of the Minas Tirith folk acrophobic? I'd have fallen at some point.
Feeeel the fluffy Pippin Love!
You know the movie hasn't swept you up when you nip out during a battle to relieve yourself.
You know you're really not being swept up when you're going "ooo, trapunto work!" and "oooo smocking!" and "Oooooo, I could make that: simple yoke, gathered set-in sleeves!"
Is it me, or does Elrond look as if he's had particularly painful dental surgery through the whole thing?
But oh man! Merry and Pippin saying goodbye in Edoras left me in tears. "You smoke too much, Pip."
And the bedroom awakening scene had me trying to laugh and cry at the same time.
I could have done with fewer minutes of chaotic battles and more minutes of Frodo and Sam. But how beautiful did poisoned!dead!Frodo look in Shelob's lair? Heartbreaking.
Theoden tapping the spears with his sword before the charge! Oh yeah!
Pippin, Pippin, how do I love thee? From a comic-relief tag-a-long to a fierce warrior and delight.
No Saruman, augh!
I was so sitting there going "Wrong elf princess! You're marrying the brunette!" when Aragorn was clasping with Legolas. I've never been much for Aragolas, but i saw it there.
Legolas and Gimli counting as the swing through battle. "that still only counts as one!" Best Gimli line ever.
Eowyn doing in the witch-king could have used a minuute or two more of screen time. I missed her line about "Foul Dwimmerlake."
I was thinking how much it looked like the Rankin-Bass version actually. This is not an insult. Elrond looks much the same as the RB one. I so had the hots for the warrior-king of the Bakshi, but Weaving leaves me cold. The ship is almost identical. Minas Tirith looks like the one in the cartoon.
Good movie. Really good.
Should I be disturbed that the men of Harad look like Bedouins?
I teared up at the Grey Havens.
Needed more Faramir/Eowyn.
Missed Eowyn's line to Aragorn about "All your words are but to say: you are a woman and your part is in the house. But when the men hacve died in battle and honor, you have leave to be burned with the house for the men will need it no more."
Pity, i think it would have enhanced her.
