Walking for New York

This means a LOT of walking.
So, I'm starting my journey one step at a time. The hobbit had the sense to do it in September. It's 85 degrees tonight after sundown.
Distance today: .75 miles.
Time: 13:12
You have walked 1 miles.
You are at Bywater.
It is 6 miles to the next landmark.
You have 458 miles to reach Rivendell.
Little of all this, of course, reached the ears of ordinary hobbits. But even the deafest and most stay-at-home began to hear queer tales; and those whose business took them to the borders saw strange things. The conversation in The Green Dragon at Bywater, one evening in the spring of Frodo's fiftieth year, showed that even in the comfortable heart of the Shire rumours had been heard, though most hobbits still laughed at them.

The last time I did this, (2010) I bicycled, on a recumbent bike, for 390 miles and made it as far as the Troll Shaws and the stone trolls.
