Yuletide Youtube: Gaudete Sunday Sweets
Dec. 13th, 2015 12:34 pmSounds of the Season:
Celtic Thunder has a nice sound, but they're only doing the chorus. (Latin Praise Choruses, what a concept!)
Steeleye Span gets the verses in.
I am informed by reliable sources that this is Gaudete Sunday or the Sunday to rejoice. Christians add the pink advent candle to the wreath today. (my Episcopalian friends joke that the purple vestments bled in the wash and made the pink ones)
Holiday Information
It is also St. Lucia Day. Lucia was martyred by Purity Culture Taken To Extremes. She's celebrated especially in Scandinavian countries because of the darkness and her association with the light. In Sweden, Lucias (teen girls dressed for the holiday and wearing a candle crown) are often accompanied by "star-boys" or "star girls" who help distribute gifts at hospitals.
Merry Moments, Trek Edition:

Sunday Sweets:
A couple of my grandma's best candy recipes
Rice-Krispies Balls
1 stick melted oleo
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. sugar
1 pkg. (8 oz) dates
Stir all together, bring to boil. Boil 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, stir in 3 c. Rice Krispies, 1 c. finely chopped nuts. Stir. Wet hands, roll into small balls, roll in flaked coconut. Chill. Makes 24.done (about 10 minutes).
Nitey-nite Cookies
2 egg whites
2/3 c. sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350°. Beat egg whites until fluffy, gradually add sugar. Beat until stiff. Stir in nuts and chips.
Drop by teaspoons into foil-covered cookie sheets. Put in oven, close door, and turn off. Do not open door. Then
go to bed and awaken to a great treat in the morning. Make 24.
Golden No-Bake Nuggets
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. corn syrup
1 c. peanut butter
3 1/2 c. corn flakes
Stir sugar and corn syrup over low heat until sugar dissolves. Add peanut butter. Stir until hot and well blended. Remove from heat. Stir in corn flakes. Blend until well coated, try not to crush. Cool slightly. Moisten hands, take portions size of egg and form balls. Or just drop from teaspoon onto wax paper.
