1) I have some leather shoes that are a little pinchy. What's the best way to stretch them?

2) Does this make sense? Wiki assures me the usage is correct but my eyes keep tripping.

He treaded water, his lungs burning, and his legs aching. He couldn't do this much longer. A painful chomp at his moving leg told him he wouldn't need to. The orca's teeth sank in and its jaws took half his calf at a bite.

3) How high am I going to need to be in order to be a reasonable human being for MidSouth?

1) Put something in them which stretches them. Shove in wads of newspaper, for example. I've heard people recommend a potato, though not tried it myself.

2) I think in speech I would say 'he trod water'. In writing I might wimp out and say 'he was treading water'.

I've heard that. I was considering freezing bags of water in them, but my freezer is full and they have to be wearable by Saturday.

Trod is the UK usage, and Treaded is the US and both are considered correct. I'm just hitching at that sentence every time.
