Trudging along
Nov. 16th, 2014 01:47 amI...am behind.
I am at 17203 words.
I should be at 25,000
However, I am only 7800 words down from where I should be, instead of 10,000.

He did his best at everything to ensure he would get the reward of Ligatos' arms. Lessons grew more difficult and still he soaked up the knowledge like a thirsty sponge. He wanted to know everything. If he knew everything, Master would find him useful and he would be better prepared for the upcoming test.
John looked over his work one afternoon and shook his head. “That's it for me, then, lad. You've topped out. I'll tell James to get you a new tutor. You will be in good shape when test time comes.”
“You test me every Friday,” David said.
“No, kid, a big test. Like world-changing. All you proteges have to do something major to stay in the program, and then something huge to graduate. Steven brokered a peace between Heartland and the US to graduate.”
David blinked. “I read about that in school. It said nothing about Steven Sparks.”
“The operatives of the Eight are found in the spaces between words and margins of the history books, lad and you should know that. Think. Remember what you were taught of recent history, both here and outside. See if you can find James' fingerprints. I want a report by Friday on his major handiwork and the places each of the six proteges affected history and steered North America in exactly the direction he wanted it.”
David gulped. He knew three names, and would have to learn the other three for the report. John had given him a leg up by telling where to look for Steven's work.
“Go throw Steven around the gym a while. It will clear your head.” John tousled his hair. “Use the desktop. I'll tell James about the assignment so he'll unlock it.” He gave a soft chuckle. “Homework on a handheld is a pain in everyone's butt. And that's your own fault.”
“I know. I'm sorry.”
John's eyebrows went up. “James has been improving you. Now, change and go see Steven. The report is due Friday, when I come in. And I expect references.”
David nodded. The assignment was a real challenge and he relished it.
