Eep. This is the sound of fannish meeping

thamiris some years back to breast cancer.
I miss her often, and more so now that I'm having an SV revival.
But this essay... Oh my dear. It categorizes everything so nicely.

mecurtinpointed out that the notorious hug scene in Phoenix occurs with an aria from Gounod's Faust playing in the background, implying that Lex is making a deal with the devil. But I'd like to adjust the meaning of this scene: I think it's Lex who is the metaphorical Lucifer, not Lionel. There's only one niche in Western culture grand enough for Lionel, complicated, arbitrary, mysterious, all-power, and that's God himself.
I don't recognize most music, in fact, I hear very little of the dialogue. But this, which I would have written off as another Brimstone allusion, gets made into some very interesting analysis.
I will now go meep with geeky meta happiness for a while more before bed.
