Con parents, beware

The police talked to Oli today, asking her about conventions. About the fact she goes to conventions where people dress as animals (Mephit Fur Meet) and wear badges. The prize question was "And these badges have different colors to show who you can have sex with?" Oli looked at her and said "WHAT? No! Con security requires minors to show it on their badge so they know who can't be out after curfew."
Then they were asking "Do you watch porn, do your parents watch porn, do your parents let you watch porn? Do you know what porn is?" I am pleased to report Oli got snippy.
To me, it sounds like they think I'm desensitizing her with porn and pimping her out at conventions. Yes, I have already bayed at the sky and sworn hideous vengeance on anyone I find out is telling these lies about us, about the entire con community.
To folks who are asking, I have an attorney friend who is very excited to be helping me on this. And his price is reasonable. We are getting through this. My living room is currently empty and being scrubbed before painting. My bathrooms are clean and my halls decluttered. We're doing the kitchen and bedrooms and study soon.

It must be amazing to have geek parents that actually take the time to explain stuff to you and keep you safe with knowledge rather than being kept in the dark and fed shit like my southern baptist parents did so when some redneck scumbag comes along and tells you that if you really love him... and 'you can't get pregnant your first time' and 'this is what women are supposed to do for men' etc, you don't know any better.
Pedophiles disgust but stuff like this pisses me off so much because 99.999% of child sexual abuse isn't some geeky dork in a costume or random stranger on the internet. It's Uncle Larry, Coach McGrabby, Revered Youngman, or that nice clean-cut upper-classman on the football team. You know. The 'GOOD PEOPLE' who are always pointing fingers at the 'freaks'.
And none of this is to say that there aren't probably some bad eggs in the geek carton. I'm sure there are, but being educated and wary is so damn much better than being ignorant and all the parents I know who bring children into that sort of environment have made sure they're educated and safe that stuff like this really pisses me off. I just wanna ram my fist down the throat of the pious assholes that think only THEY know what's good for a child. I'm also pretty sure that the people who are fantasizing all these things that might happen to a child are probably the ones most likely to perpetrate it.
