valarltd: (I seem to have died)

In the space of three days I have managed to piss off two of my best friends, mainly by speaking my truths.

Maybe it's time I shut up about anything but weather and food and plans for the afternoon. My parents and husband live at the "Veriest Trivia" level of my life, so why should friends be any different?

In short, look for a lot more State of the Sooky posts and a lot less pontification.

Being truthful with friends is one of the most difficult things in life. I myself have lost a few "friends" over the years by being truthful, whether it was in reference to myself or the way said friends were acting.

I learned a long time ago people don't want the truth especially if it reflects back on them or their shortcomings as a support system. To me the truth is important as long as it is spoken for the right reasons.

Sorry to hear you're having a difficult time. Hang in there and if your friends are truly friends they'll come around. Being pissed in the moment is just that "the moment". Letting go of that and moving forward is far more important than clinging to the anger.

Perhaps your friends simply don't live on the level where truth is the most important thing? Been there, done that, designed the t-shirt, frankly. Lost friends through speaking the truth, being myself, unable to pretend something was so when it was not, etc. etc. What's more important, self-respect, or that of someone else who may or may not be as honest or self-objective or?? If they're really friends they'll figure it out; if they aren't, you haven't lost anything but illusions, and we know where those go, as we mature!
