Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or [livejournal.com profile] wish_list or [livejournal.com profile] holiday_wishes or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

It's been a tough year for a lot of people. Me, I'm working and doing all right.
So, here's my list. There's nothing on here I can't live without, but it's all stuff that would make me very happy:

1) Buy something from The Literary Underworld! Support small press authors. Something from anyone! Also, there will be many many Black Friday sales. Do your shopping and brighten an author's holiday season.

2) Help out the charity of your choice. The charities of my choice are Project Linus (Donate or make a blanket for them, if they move you) and The Trevor Project. This is the nation's only round the clock suicide prevention hotline for GLBT youth. 1/3 of our kids kill themselves. The Trevor Project helps.

3) Support your local food pantry. The need is greater than ever this year. Give blood or become a bone marrow donor. Sign your organ donation card. Do a breast or testicle self-exam, to make sure you're around for the people who love and need you.

Stuff for me:
4) Anything from the Amazon Wishlist

5) Original art of my various characters. I'm not asking for over-the-fireplace oil-paintings (I can dream, can't I?). A quick sketch of "This is how I see Torturo" or "Here are Charlie and Edward in the tomb of the Manicurists" or "I doodled this one of Adlai and Nathaniel snogging just for you" sent as a .jpg would be more than welcome.

6) Review one of my books at Amazon, especially one without any reviews. Every review makes a book more easily found.

Bigger stuff:
7) BPAL is always welcome. I don't do well with opium or vetiver notes. Jasmine is hit or miss. An imp or two that you can't wear will find a welcoming home here.

8) Something nifty that you've made. It doesn't have to be big. A hotpad is plenty.

9) Books. E-books preferred. I load up my reader and take it to the gym. Makes the bicycle easier.

And something that everyone can do:
10) Make someone's day a little better. Let them go before you in line. Reach something for someone who can't. Give someone a smile.
