A little editing.

A little writing.

A lot of naked Nicole Kidman.

Is it me or is EYES WIDE SHUT really really boring? It tried to be a thriller. It tried to be a sexy movie. It is failing on all fronts. Maybe Tom Cruise is the problem? It's all about him and I'm not a fan. The movie itself is opulent, beautifully staged and shot. But I am bored bored with it. When do i get some good sexy stuff?

It's Stanley Kubrick. All Kubrick movies move very slowly and take their time getting where they are going. Terence Malick makes him look like Michael Bay by comparison but I think Kubrick is one of those directors that you have to prepare yourself for before you watch and remind yourself that you are watching a movie that's going to have a lot of long shots and loving time wasting moments.

Still, I liked the movie - mostly because I wasn't really into the Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman backlash and partially because I was all prepared for a Kubrick slog that would ultimately be worth it (even if it's in repeat viewings because Kubrick's movies are those rare movies that might not be awesome when you first watch but they do get better).

I'm also fascinated in the way Kubrick is constantly deconstructing the Alpha Male trope by revealing this masculinity as a fragile edifice that can be torn apart without much effort.
