Annoying Epiphany, again

valarltdI came to the realization that love makes my heroes stupid. This is a variant of All Men Are Idiots, Men In Love Doubly So.

Consider Heart of a Forest.
He sees the beautiful princess, high in her tower.
A busy outlaw, a smart outlaw is thinking "I have a earldom to get back, wrongs to write, etc. etc. Sucks to be you, kid," waves and keeps on going.
My Robin is all "Yoicks and Away! I will save her and make her mine! Then on with the rest of the agenda!" as he climbs the tower.

Consider Hard Reboot.
Sean wakes up to find his wife missing. He quickly learns that the cops are no help and he's poison with PIs. This points to someone with more money and power than he has, someone who can squash him like a bug. In his sleep.
A smart man says "There are 5 billion women in the world. She may have been an awesome runner, but she couldn't cook, she never cleaned and I had to teach her everything in bed." And goes off to find someone who can cook and clean and have decent sex and still run the net.
Sean, however, happily picks up the Idiot Ball, and ends up running cons on men who can destroy the world with a whim.

Pretty slave boy.
A smart man enjoys his time and moves along.
Not Ruvane, oh no. He has to commit grand theft sentient-livestock, tangle with bounty hunters and endure all sorts of unpleasantness.

Edward and Charlie haven't been idiots over each other. Yet.

Glad Hands...It's a tossup. Seven really doesn't know how to drive the truck. So a run to Birmingham for a rescue or a run for the Tribal Lands and escape is about equally daunting. The difference is, Birmingham is guaranteed to try executing him.

James Ligatos is willing to throw away his life's work, to destabilize the entire world for a pretty little psychopath. Steven risks his life repeatedly for Tanis, who despises him. David is willing to destroy the whole world for love of a man who detests him.
No matter how smart the men start out, they seem to always get dumb when love comes in.

My women don't, for the most part, actually fall in love. At least the smart ones don't. Cyberverse Zara is such a broken cookie, she needs the men in her life, and says she loves them, but I doubt she does. Tara is a blank slate, brainwashed into nothingness. Adina, she's willing to try and see, but that's where the tale ends. Chastity and Alice are bubble-fluff whose whole lives are centered on getting married. Tanis knows she isn't worthy of being loved, and so shoves away the man who does, while reaching for men who don't.

I do. Because I have seen no evidence to the contrary.
