Sigh, NOLA
Jan. 20th, 2011 04:45 pmSo, I'm going to New Orleans. I mean, bad enough there is no programming.
Now everyone is wittering on about the awesome hotel and the terrific food and all the tourist stuff.
I am going to network and sell books.
I don't give a damn if it's in a Motel 6 as long as I can sleep and shower and not dress in public (let's NOT turn half the convention to stone, kthnx). And as for food, with a $80 parking fee, I'm taking a cooler and living out of the coffee pot (oatmeal in the morning is awesome), like I do for Dragon.
I feel rather out of place at the moment.

Date: 2011-01-20 11:10 pm (UTC)I'm bringing a hot plate. There is no way, with the cost of parking, travel, and hotel, that we can afford to do anything BUT make our own food for the duration of our stay. Even if it's only warming up some soup or something, I can't afford to sink thousands into this.
Have to say, I'm rather annoyed there's no programming. I feel some panels might have been nice to attend. Right now, it's starting to feel like everyone's going to get together like a big slumber party we all have to pay to attend, and I don't like that feeling.
>.> Sorry for going on there. ^_^ All this to say, I completely understand where you're coming from.

Date: 2011-01-21 01:18 am (UTC)And I just figured out that taking the train is $102 and the bus is $105 and that driving and parking will be $130.
I get to ride the City of New Orleans!
(If I don't change my mind and go to RomantiCon, twice as high, twice as far, but WITH programming)

Date: 2011-01-21 04:24 am (UTC)Oh, well. Never been to NOLA before, and probably never will again, so I'll just have to grin and (hopefully) bear it.
