Panel thoughts

I've been thinking on panel topics, kinda brain storming with jkb. I am excited about real discussions. I plan a weekend in geek-paradise.

There's a couple I would like to see but can't think how to propose.

Is fandom corrollated with lesbianism, Aspberger's, an unnurtured inner life as a child and high intelligence?

And one on realistic sex in slash fic. I mean how many panels open with the question "Who here can deep throat?" followed by "Who's had anal sex? Enjoyed it? Does it regularly?" (no show of hands needed)

Menfen and femmefans: Gender differences in fannish expression.

jkb wants to do one on PerilFic, where great attention is paid to the set-up capture and taunting, but not a lot of rape, battery and broken bones. I think it's a great idea.

PerilFic is not my cuppa, since I feel that if the villains have gone to such great lengths, they deserve to carry out their plan rather than being robbed at the last moment. but that's just my sadistic streak shining through like a day-glo madonna on the dash of a 55 Chevy.

I'm swamped for this year on prep. Next year there will be music vids. Maybe even "Along Came Jones" (an Indy vid) Must finish with Darren's afghan so I can get cracking on the fan one. On the 11th square of 77.

I like that idea, I much prefer working on character's phobias, rather than doing stuff to them 'on screen' as it were. And Manna can vouch for what happens when I let torture victims socialise with professional interrogators.

I want to do a panel on PerilFic partly because I see so little of it in the fandoms I'm familiar with. I'd love it if they'd spend pages on entrapment, bondage, taunting and so forth -- and then get him out of there (or cut away tastefully) before anything too awful happens --, but it's usually 3 lines on how they catch him and tie him up and then many pages on how they inflict terrible injuries on him. Not that I'm knocking those who like it darker (hi, Angel! *g*), but I wish there were more out there for people like me who get off on the suspense.

Phobias are great, too; have you written fic playing with characters' phobias, Gina? (I don't know your work.) I wonder whether many/most fandoms invent phobias for characters that don't have any in canon. For example, canon didn't give Luke Skywalker any phobias, but people keep coming up with the idea that he can't swim and that he must have a fear of drowning, so the bad guys are always throwing him into deep water.

Interesting about the water thing. Because if you include very early EU in canon, Luke *can* swim. It's Leia with the water-fear.

This gets pretty nasty in Splinter of the mind's Eye when they have to paddle across an underground lake with no visible far shore. They do it on a giant lily pad, using shaped stalagmites as paddles. After theyve made the crossing, Leia fesses up that she can't swim and was petrified the whole way.

But a lot of people consider Splinter to be AU because of the Luke/Leia lusting...

I'd like to see more phobia fic. (but I consider the whole EU phobia fic. It's so hard to watch Han being tied down, which is his greatest fear.)
