According to a meme of some years back, my pirate name would be 'Dirty Ethel Flint'. Can't say as it suits me all that well. Dirty I ain't - though cleanliness on the bounding main can certainly prove problematic. Salt may scour but doesn't exactly get you clean, and it's hard on the skin. Maybe that's why I'm "Flint"? And if I were the most feared buccaneer on the seas, it'd most likely be due to my post-menopausal moods of unpredictable fury...;) Ya don't wanna argue with an ill-tempered crone who's wielding a scimitar...
It seems to me that advice columnist Dan Savage gave a similar answer when Stephen Colbert asked what his porn name would be.
So then (if you don't mind my asking), that is your actual name? I must admit I've wondered, since you mentioned having a pen name for writing children's books, whether Angelia Sparrow was _also_ a nom de plume, since most writers aren't so fortunate as to start out with such an evocative name.
I didn't start with Angelia Sparrow. But I married into it around 1989. It is my legal name, much to the frustration of convention staff and the delight of AC Crispin.
