Shopping with my daughters

Bun is going to Middle Tennessee Anime Convention this weekend.
She wanted a costume. So, we went thrift-shopping.

The first thing you need to know, I am a hard to fit size.
The second: Bun has UNCANNY thift-store luck.

A couple years ago,she needed a prom dress.

Last night, she needed a pink turtleneck and a red spaghetti strap top. I was prepared to shop-crawl as needed.

Instead, I dropped $56 at Goodwill. (more than I should have)
Our haul:
Bun's pink turtle neck and red spaghetti strap. And boots for the costume as well and a red ruffled skirt
A pair of pink camo pants for Oli
For me, 3 skirts (a beige calf-length, a broomstick skirt, a pumpkin orange knit), a cream top that matches the last two, a beautifully battered leather jacket (preapare to 'punk), a brand new, Hildebrandt illustrated copy of Phantom of the Opera, the Spiderwick Chronicles, vol 1 and the Books of Blood, with dustjacket in excellent condition.

We hit Michael's for a few supplies and then Party City for a wig. Right length, wrong color. So she's been dying it pink.

Those ears are easy to make--Bun can just use open-cell foam, cut to shape with scissors, and cover them with velvet. Then sew to the wig and you're set!

I made cat ears for my ex that way, but have no pictures.

That's a whole lot easier than what I did for my roommate's =_=; mine involved white fabric saturated with elmer's glue and shaped over the course of several days. Wish I'd thought of foam. damn.

I build boffers for LARPs, so I tend to use shaped foam a lot.

Currently I'm working on a costume of jimhines' Talia for New York Comic Con.

My roommate did Lucy at MidSouthCon two years ago. It's a costume that a lot of people recognize and like.
