Thoughts on pre-order

huntpress has an essay on pre-orders.

I'd never really given it much thought.

But saraphina_marie has Labyrinth of the Dead up for pre-order. My own Shell-Shocked is available for pre-order.

And I just put it all together. The printing company does not charge for set-up if we order 50 copies of a book. Even ten or twenty pre-orders helps defray the cost of that first order. It gives the publisher reason to believe they will sell all 50 books. The waived set-up fee can be applied to publicity.

Also, Apex is throwing in goodies. And Pink Petal is offering a better discount than I can.
