April 9th - How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.
They wander in, sit on my filing cabinet and talk to me. Or at least the David muse did.
Basically, I'll be plotting something and the characters tend to be there. They often look like actors or media characters. Or we have stock characters we borrow from when I'm working with my coauthor. I need a smaller black man, will the Adrien do, is Steven too large, do I need someone else entirely?
Sometimes characters spin off of other characters. When we were writing "Tuition Fees," Naomi and I had this really hot Nick/Chris sex scene that didn't fit anywhere at all. Then we got to playing with the scene, changed the characters up a little, got Josh the art gallery owner instead of Nick the politician and Anthony the artist (more ethnic, but much the same), and "Collared Hearts" was underway.
April 10th - What are some really weird situations your characters have been in? Everything from serious canon scenes to meme questions counts!
Sentenced to be stoned to death for allegedly being gay.
Forced to live as a woman and trained as both ninja and geisha
Falling for a hologram
Having kinky sex with conjoined twins
Turning into a train
Possessed by ancient Egyptian manicurists
Modeling for a Mapplethorpe style photoshoot
Attending the Scholomance
Bribing a pixie street gang with sugar to get information
Let's face it, most of it is weird!

Date: 2010-04-11 01:54 am (UTC)He awoke to pain. A shooting pain racked his ribs as if someone had hit him. He knew at once what was going on. Despite the pains, which manifested themselves at frequent intervals, he struggled into his clothes and left the empty
car.
He charged through the Backyard, heading for the Engine. A
hard blow to his shoulder rocked him and another to his belly knocked the wind out of him, dropping him to sit on the ground with a whoof. Nick gasped for a moment, got back to his feet and continued.
He saw Torturo hurling rocks at the Engine and shouting at
Clovis. When his lover pegged one through the window, a gash
opened on Nick’s own forehead and blood streamed into his eye and down his face.
“Jacob!” he yelled. “Stop!”
“Shut up, Nicholas.” Torturo launched another rock, sending it clanging off the rounded side. “Fuck you, Clovis!”
“Jac—” Nick hit the ground with another whoof. He sat
gasping, holding his belly, blood soaking the collar and front of his shirt.
Torturo dropped the rock he held and came to Nick, confusion
all over his face. “What? What happened to you?”
“You did.” Nick peeled away the bloody shirt to show large
purple bruises blooming all over his body, including a bright red spot on his belly from the last rock. “I’m just lucky the one that broke the window didn’t take my eye out. It was sharp.”
