I did, indeed, though I have to admit, I had to pretend it was a different movie altogether. Much as I love Johnny Cash in all his movies he did, I have this awful distaste for remakes, no matter who stars in them, especially of movies that are among my favorites. And, the original 1939 version of Stagecoach with John Wayne happens to be one of those favorites. I did enjoy the remake, though, with the Highwaymen in it, immensely.
And, speaking of John Wayne, I've never especially been too much of a fan of Glen Campbell, but I've always had to credit his bad acting for making JW look so good he finally won an Oscar for True Grit. :) I don't know why GC has always grated on my nerves, but he does.
I think I've seen every movie that Johnny Cash made, though. My favorites are The Pride of Jesse Hallam, The Baron, and Murder in Coweta County (where Andy Griffith, of all people, plays the BAD GUY! Can you believe it? WOW! It was an awesome movie.).
I just love how June Carter Cash seemed to almost always be somewhere in the movies with JC. Their's was a love that has, nor had, no equal, I think.
But, back to that video, somehow, I don't think they'd get away with putting that particular song on SS today, do you? I just get a huge kick out of it, though, especially when, at the beginning, when he's singing about the dog killing the chickens, he gives a very pointed look at Rolph, there. And, the chickens singing in the background is just an especially nice, if slightly morbid, touch. Which just adds to the whole charm of it all. And Rolph's ad libbing just gives it that perfect finishing touch. :P I know, I have a rather strange and morbid sense of humor, but I think whoever put that scene together is a comic genius.
I could go on and on and on, all day and then some, on all things Johnny Cash. :) I'm glad we found each other here on LJ. It's nice to see another fan.
