1. Why steampunk?
I love the aesthetic, first of all. Victoriana with a dose of Jules Verne. I was an early devotee of Victorian SF, between Edgar Rice Burroughs and seeing Time After Time and "The Time Machine" and Journey to the Center of the Earth with Pat Boone, and "Wild Wild West." The challenge to write something that incorporates all that, yet challenges Victorian social mores AND our own, intrigues me. Besides, what other excuse does an almost-42 year old woman have for dressing up like a dirigible version of Han Solo?
2. Favorite of your published works?
If by "favorite," you mean the one I can read over and over and love it as much as the day I finished if not more, Heart of A Forest.
If you mean the one I am proudest of and enjoy, Curse of the Pharaoh's Manicurists.
3. What's your favorite movie that *didn't* pass the Bechdel test?
Star Wars. Apparently, there are two women in the whole galaxy and one dies early in the movie.
4. How exactly did you debauch your desk?
Well, there was this sign--it's surplus--that read "Anything screwed on this desk is US Govmt Property." We took it as a challenge...
(Seriously, it just fits in with the Den of Debauchery theme: this is the subannex, Myspace is the Hedge-maze, Blogger is the Garden Gazebo, so twitter is the debauched desk, with post-its)
5. Best nonfiction book you've read?
The Tightwad Gazette, Vol 1-3. These kept me alive and my family fed during the toughest years.
