Biblical scholar Timothy K. Beal (in his very accessible book, Religion and Its Monsters) argues that the biblical book of Job could fit that description, and that the portrayal of God as monstrous was not accidental.

The whole 'His Dark Materials' series by Philip Pullman (the first novel of which was made into a not so great film recently, "Golden Compass" portrays "God" in no uncertain terms: an ancient, decrepit, completely evil being that has become a world-eating monster. I figure Pullman got it right.
