Yule: Mothers' Night at Summerland Grove

valarltdIt was a great Yule party.
We were a little late, since I insisted on a shower before I went.
We carried in a crockpot of homemade chicken and noodles, a platter of iced cut-out cookies and a chocolate pizza. Ten coloring books and three presents.
We visited around. Then it was ritual time. The Ulfar Kindred, the local heathens, did the rit. In ancient Norse culture, the solstice night was Mothers' Night, dedicated to the mothers and their labors.
We circled in and sang and blessed the directions with Thor's Hammer. There was some talk of mothers, libations to Frigga and Nerthus and Angrbotha. A horn went around and we all honored mothers and drank from it.
The potluck. ZOMG! Everyone outdid themselves. I brought food home and I NEVER bring food home from a potluck. The only thing completely eaten was the KFC and the deviled eggs.
Then the gift exchange...
Dirty Santa is entertaining, but I usually get stuck.
We did some strategy work.
Obi got a set of Avon Feng Shui candles.
I got a hot pink scarf/shawl and some rainbow socks.
Bun kidnapped several gifts, ended with Obi's candles, and Obi brought home a three legged table and some paints.
The people who got the afghan and the goblet loved them.
Not sure about the chocolate pizza.
Dollface and Jonner were disappointed they only got gift bags.
But I explained they didn't want to have something they really liked stolen.

Date: 2008-12-14 02:27 pm (UTC)8 oz chocolate chips, melted with 8 oz almond bark, add 1/2 c each of dry roasted peanuts, rice crispies and marshmallows. spread in a pizza pan. top with 1/2 c. coconut and 1/2 c.green and red cherries. drizzle 2 oz melted almond bark over it all.
