What is this insane need I have to alienate people I don't even know?

I just said "If an OFC's sole purpose is to sleep with a canon character, she's a Mary Sue." This is a given in fandom.

What made me respond to the first chicklet who got her feelings hurt?

My trademark snarkiness pissed off a lot of people and they went on the attack.
I did try not to be personal. Yeesh, you think they took the "heterosexist" crack to heart?

Maybe it was the "gleeful sadistic fun" description of skewering really bad writers. I'll do it mentally, mocking their behavior only in my head and maybe in a parody piece. In public, I'm a two-faced bitch and say "Maybe a beta reader could help you out. Your characterization seems a little weak."

Or maybe it was the "Mary Sue is a PHASE. You move on and start creating real characters."

Nope, heterosexist Mary Sues, and damn proud of it. I thought I'd wandered into Temple Bards for a minute.

I know: don't start nothin', won't be nothin'. I voiced a given. Umbrage was taken. I said my piece. More umbrage was taken. I sat down and let the stuff whiz over my head. More umbrage taken at my silence. Toldja what I know already, don't like repeating myself.

Aww, Angel, you know being an expert rabble-rouser is one of your karmic purposes in this life, right? Or at the least, one of your more endearing traits. Sounds like you roused a little more rabble than you intended to; oh, well. As they say, well-behaved women rarely make history. Also, fandom is full of over-sensitive people, though I don't think you'll find that one on a bumpersticker. (Being one of the over-sensitive people myself, I know whereof I speak.) Unless you lost any close and meaningful friendships over this one, though, I wouldn't take it to heart. Another day, another flamewar. :) I know it's easier said than done, to blow it off when everybody's bitching about you. But I'm sure they'll get over it eventually, whoever/wherever this list was (is it one that I've likely to have heard of?).

A lot more than I intended to. Ah well.
I haven't lost any readers, but I think there are some who will be looking with suspicion on my posts for a while.

And no one will want to play with me at the next party. (We do on-list parties. The Halloween one just wrapped up.) But that's not uncommon either. I wound up at the BBQ with the bantha burgers the first time we did one. (Won't tell you where Lord Vengar and I ended up over Halloween.)

The Chicks will get over it. I'll get over it.
And I got some backing from a rather unexpected source. Someone who slammed me for slash also came to my defense on a "Mary Sue is by definition bad" tangent. If she's good, she's an OC, if she's bad, she's Mary Sue.
