Saturday off, what a concept
Mar. 8th, 2008 08:16 amIt's Obi's birthday. He's 13.
I now have 2 teenagers in the house. Doooooooooooooom.
Actually, I don't have any in the house. They're all outside playing in the 4-6 inches of snow we got yesterday. 8)
~~~
I hurt.
The winds were very very high. As in hard enough to blow a SECURED trailer door shut. With me in it. I have a bruise under my left wing from the door, a nice deep one in my left rib cage (from the door-latchplate) and an ache under my boobs where the trailer got me.
Add in the general stress of the day, and I'm stiff and sore.
At least I don't have to work today. I'll run tomorrow.
Line-haul hasn't left Mississippi yet. (they're having trailer trouble)
My route is 100% ice. And the interstate is closed between Lehi (6 miles out)and Schererville (10 miles out) because of...what else? jack-knifes.
I most egregiously violated the Truckers' Code by leaving the 4 wheelers to fend for themselves yesterday. And I feel guilty for not taking the median and instead risking all three of us as I kept myself on the road. While I justify my behavior by thinking of my kids, they probably had kids too. And getting swept off the road by a semi would have been disasterous for them.
It all turned out well, but it's scary to realize that your ideals don't actually translate to reality, and the reptile brain goes straight for self-preservation in an emergency.
