POLITICS


I score 73 on the Skilled Worker Immigration assessment. I qualify. Now to get up 6 mo living expenses, not to mention the $1600 CDN/person just for paperwork. I wonder if US citizens can claim asylum status?

My rational mind is saying "There's an election in 6 weeks, see how it goes. And remember, the Shrub is out in 2008."

My cynical mind is saying "You think the ruling oligarchs won't put in another puppet and continue this garbage?"

My gut is screaming "Pack the cars, load the kids and get out NOW! This time it's YOUR door the US Marines are coming to. Your teenage daughter they're going to gang-rape. And you'll get the bullet. And the Sparrows will be as much a footnote as the Hazmas (except the part where the school age sons will be shot as well) because no one cares what happens to a bunch of liberal nonchristian queers."

I'm scared. I'm mad as hell, and I feel absolutely impotent. I'm too busy trying to keep from drowning financially to set aside immigration money. Mudd is all "Yeah, yeah another power grab. So what?" I'm scared to keep speaking about anything but the veriest trivia. I have kids. I have a family to protect and support. I end up in a KBR built camp, and what happens to my kids?

It's just like church. But instead of failure to toe the line resulting in burning in Hell, there are REAL consequences now. Ones more important than having all the ladies refuse to eat your covered dish, or being snubbed for being a birth control militant in a breeding church.

And there are people saying "If you're against this you must be a terrorist or traitor! They're the only ones who should be afraid."


This is the act of a political party that never expects to be out of power again. They think it will never be turned on them, because they never plan to leave.

...And do you really think Canada is any more tolerant of Liberal Redneck Queers? The current party in power was swept into power (and is likely to retain much if not all of that power) by the will of the voting majority, and because the out-of-power party put themselves out of power by being weak on just about everything while they sit on opposite coasts with a scattered (and scatter-brained) power base that has no real message. "Besides (taking on sarcastic, sardonic tone), why should the U.S. government want to come after you? The party in power needs your tax dollars to continue funding the empire... And it's not like your radical left wing views are any serious threat because you're such a minority that almost nobody of importance really listens or cares." Personally, while I do not like some of what the current administration is doing, I--and I believe most Americans--prefer a strong but corrupt government whose power is feared by the outside world to a weak but forthright government that nobody beyond our own borders respects (or fears). The economy is good, oil prices continue to fall, unemployment is down to less than 5%, Iran is now pinched from east & west by occupying American armed forces, and from the south by the U.S. Navy as they pursue their nuclear ambitions... And there has not been another successful terrorist attack on American soil since 9-11. (So much for claims that current tax and foreign policy has failed or made America less safe.) If you are going to be a minority living amongst a (largely) intolerant majority, learn to keep your head down and tread softly. You only draw fire when you draw attention to yourself by trying to cram your entire minority viewpoint down the throat of the majority who is not yet ready to swallow (or maybe even taste) it, and which might never be ready for it all in one gulp. Law of The Jungle, and all that: If you are not The Strong, then--if you want to survive--learn to adapt so that you don't stand out, and wear a defensive camouflage.
