Our story begins with a bored lady named Isabel who is tired of her life and her endless needlework (The Elfknight--Steeleye Span)

living in: A stifling suburb of conformity where opinions are frowned on. She calls it "Nowhere Land. (Nowhere Man--The Beatles)

who spends her time: listening to the radio and dreaming of the big city. (We built this city--Starship)

and longs for: A sexy daring man to sweep her off her feet and shower her with gold. (Brisk young Butcher--Steeleye span)

In his troubled past, she: did a military hitch that left her a closet alcoholic (Ballad of Ira Hayes--Johnny Cash)

and since then she has: been unable to settle down. When at last she married, trying for a semblence of normality, her husband moved her to Nowhere Land. (White Line Fever--Graham Parsons)

leaving her conflicted over: whether her dreams and fantasies are the real life or not. Because there ahs to me more than just lots of identical houses and more and more complex cross-stitch patterns (Bohemian Rhapsody--Queen)

On this fateful day, our heroine: casts aside all her false faces, shows herself and her husband who she truly is. (The Stranger--Billy Joel)

. . . which causes this conflict or risks this loss: She walks out on her husband, buys a corvette and takes off for the open road (Riding with Private Malone--David Ball)

She resolves to: set aside what she earns for the lean times that are coming, living on the minimum (Song of the king--Dreamcoat)

. . . and fails to: manage it, finding herself homeless and penniless and wheel-less in California. (Streets of Bakersfield--Dwight Yokum and Buck Owens)


. . . intensifying their conflict by: In jail for vagrancy, she meets Mary, an absolutely insane homeless woman who talks of the Queen of Shadows and Lilith and other fanciful female figures. (Bedlam boys--Leslie Fish)

Pressures build until: Isabel, by now a bit mad herself, loses herself in prayer (Kaddish--Paul Robeson)

At this crucial point, she chooses: to take Mary as her mentor (Desperados waiting for a train--Highwaymen)

And the story resolves; Mary reveals herself as The Lady of the Morning Star, and together they walk out of the jail and into an amazing new life. (Chickasaw Mountain--Leslie Fish) And the jailors find them frozen to death in their cell the next morning...
