A while back, Bunny expressed curiosity about paganism. So I asked [livejournal.com profile] dakiwiboid for book recs. She pointed us to a very wonderful one called The Practical Pagan. So, we're working through that. I also borrowed a copy of Drawing Down the Moon. Bun says "It's very scholarly. Which is a word that here means boring yet informative."

Last night, apropos of nothing, Obi and I were talking and he blurted out "But why are you reading books, Mom? You're a born witch."

I asked what made him think that.

He said "It's everything. It's the way you always know what we're doing, even if you're in another room. It's the way money always comes when you need it most. It's the way you pick up on everyone's feelings and can even tell what we're thinking. It's how you know when we're sick and just how sick by looking at us and touching us."

I laughed and said "Then every mother is a witch."

He added, "And the way you look at the moon. You use it as a calendar, and call it 'She'."

Busted. Then he asked to go to the Lunar Circle with us Saturday. I said yes. He also asked to go back to the Methodist Church so he could compare it to the Baptist one across the street. My Obi amazes me often.

Then we worked on his "Mr. Roboto" vid. Aside from the ending, it's in excellent shape. He's got a brilliant sense of timing.

I want to suggest a book: Postive Magic by Marien Weinstein.

I don't know how a teenage girl will find the writing, but I found it fascinating and it gave me TONS to think about. And I know how she feels about Drawing Down the Moon... I haven't been able to get through that one myself. :)

AS for Obi... good for him. Way to tune in to his instincts. :)

Thanks for the rec. I'll see about a copy after we finish Practical Pagan.

Da Boid (above) is Kiwi Carlisle out of St. Louis. Since I knew her background as a leader and teacher, I knew she'd have a great idea where to start.

I couldn't argue Bun on the Adler book. "Boring yet informative" was my summation as well.

If she thinks ADLER is boring

She should be glad she's not reading Ronald Hutton's Triumph of the Moon, which is what my adult students read. Now that's scholarly!

Aaawww, what a cutie little Obi is. And Bunny sounds like she was raised by Joss Whedon.

Joss and Lemony Snicket.

She's too smart by half.
