Day Two of Mdia West
May. 29th, 2005 08:31 amToo tired to write last night. I had a 9 AM panel on "the Dark Side" or Fandom Kinks and squicks. What makes everyone go "ewwww," until the biggest BNF does it then everyone falls all over themselves imitating it? It was quite fun, and gave a lot of fandom perspectives. Mag 7 sounds pretty wanky, but that's their sandbox, not mine.
Then I went to the vid review. "Son of Man" went over pretty well. Two main complaints: crappy source and it seems like I lose the train of though 3/4 of the way through the vid. Need to get back to storyboarding a little harder. Also, more action shots, fewer reaction shots.
Hunted for
ireneheron but missed her. We rescheduled our lunch date until today. (About an hour and a half) Bunny and I hit Burger King and I got a Leia in my happy meal. Then we started setting up for the party. The party was a hit. Half the brain, most of theglasses, a fair bit of the cheese, and many vegetables were eaten. The kids watched The Last Unicorn.
Then it was time to run vids. I got to see the SiDiC Reel again, and Vid Weasels 2004 Gen Reel.
Then, back upstair to do Bunny's ears. The latex did not want to take the base makeup, and she forgot her belt. But she was quite beautiful. The little girls won with their Stargate presentation. And the Audience Choice (I tallied the votes) was an entry called "the Writer's Nightmare." Two gals in bunny suits did their version of the Badger Song. "Bunny bunny bunny bunny bunny bunny bunny. Plot Hole Plot hole!" Then Angst! Angst! and slash, slash! The security guy who kept trying to track down the duelling highlanders "They're using live steel, it's against MWC rules!" got a few votes. (I was in rare form, he asked where they'd gone. I did the Scarecrow routine from the Wizard of Oz" One went that way. One went this way. Of course some do go both ways...) The Missing Bruce Formation almost got the People's Choice award. MBF was three guys who used to do the Three Bruces from the Monty Python sketch. Last time they did it was 1991. This year one died. So they propped his hat and pic on a chair and did it without him in his honor.
Back to the room, and
jkb and I went room running. We came back and I pretty much dropped. I know Bunny came in, but I don't know when. I was commiting Con Heresy: Getting a decent night's sleep.
